In Governor Raimondo’s announcement Friday afternoon it was announced that Rhode Island schools may begin winter sport practices starting on January 4th. Low and moderate risk sports (Basketball, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Indoor Track and Field, Swimming) will hopefully start on that date.
“To assist with ongoing preparation for the winter sport season, the RIIL has also scheduled meetings with Principals, Athletic Directors, and Winter Sport Coaches early next week to further educate and train everyone on ReOpening RI’s guidance and the RIIL, Winter Sport Modifications.”-RIIL Statement on 12/18/20
It has also been approved for wrestling to be moved to the Spring season. The sport that is usually participated in the Winter season has been moved to the Spring due to it being deemed a high-risk sport.
