Friday night, the No. 10 Michigan State Spartans visited the Wisconsin Badgers in a Big Ten bout at the Kohl Center in Madison. Wisconsin senior guard Nick Boyd scored 29 points in the 92-71 victory. Wisconsin has now won four of their last five, and Michigan State has lost three of their last four

In the first half, Wisconsin took control early, exploding for a 15-0 run. This set them up to have a comfortable lead throughout the first half. Wisconsin lit the nets on fire, as they shot 58% from the field and drained 10 threes. In the first half, Boyd notched his 22nd 20+ point game, which leads the nation, and Michigan State junior forward Coen Carr led the way for the Spartans with 11 points.

The second half was more of the same. Michigan State’s offense came alive, but their defense still struggled to stop a hot Badger offense.

In the second half, Boyd handed off the offensive responsibilities to his backcourt mate John Blackwell. The Bloomfield Hills, Michigan native scored 19 of his 24 points in the second half. The Wisconsin backcourt combined for 55 points in the victory.

Friday night’s victory over Michigan State is Wisconsin’s third victory over a top 10 opponent this season.

Key to Victory: The Wisconsin Backcourt

Nick Boyd and John Blackwell are one of the best scoring backcourts in the nation, and they showed that Friday night. They showed their scoring efficiency from all three levels, and helped others around them.

Next for the Badgers: Tuesday, February 17 at Ohio State Buckeyes at 8:30 PM EST

Next for the Spartans: Tuesday, February 17 at UCLA Bruins at 8:30 PM EST.
