We are 5 days into the 25th Winter Olympics and the race for medals is really starting to heat up. Some of the top athletes so far include the Swiss Ski Racer Franjo von Allmen and the Norwegian Cross-Country Skier Johannes Klaebo who are the only athletes so far to secure 2 Golds each.

As for the United States, the nation has earned a total of 12 medals with only 2 Golds so far from Mikaela Shiffrin and Breezy Johnson in Woman's Alpine Skiing and Ilia Malinin in Men's Figure Skating. Currently sitting at 5th among Nations, the United States has the 4th most medals of any country, but still trails in terms of Golds to Norway, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland.
At the time of writing this article at early-Wednesday morning, Norway is leading all nation for Medals with 12 in total including 6 Golds. The winners of the previous 3 Winter Games, Norway was heavily expected to be among the top Nations of this event but are "running away with it", securing Golds twice as fast as the other top nations like Germany and Sweden who each have 3.
Some of the most-watched events for the 2026 Winter Olympics as almost every Winter Olympics have been Figure Skating, Snowboarding and Woman's Hockey, with Men's Hockey not starting yet but expected to join these events as well.
With Woman's Ice Hockey having it's biggest match between the United States and Canada last night with more to come, make sure to check out Joseph McLaughlin's premier coverage of all things Olympic Hockey including his history of the US-Canada rivalry here, and his Men's Hockey Preview coming out later today here.
We really need to take a moment and appreciate just how dominant Norway has been so far through 5 days of the 16-day event.

In total, the 2026 Winter Olympics will involve 116 events across 16 disciplines. So far, 27 of the 116 events have concluded. In those 27 events, Norway has placed Top-3 in 45% of them and earned Gold in 22%.
With Cross-Country Skiing events completed and Speed Skating concluding Wednesday at 1:00 pm EST, Norway's hold on the Games should slow down after their premier events. Even then, there is little hope for any other nation to catch them.
In the last event in Beijing in 2022, Norway would secure the most Gold Medals in any single-Winter Olympic Games with 16, 4 more than 2nd-place Germany. For the 2026 Games, with the pace they have been on so far through the event coupled with their success in Winter Championship games in 2025, it is likely Norway will beat their own record of 16 Gold medals.
