4 Potential Red Sox Trades To Make Before the Deadline

The Red Sox made the BOLD first move of the deadline this weekend trading high valued, young pitcher Connelly Early to the Nationals for right handed-slugger Curtis Mead.

Red Sox CBO Craig Breslow recently hinted that the Red Sox might not be done before August 3rd's Trade Deadline. The team should be looking mostly for more Right Handed hitters, with Catcher and Middle Infielders being the likeliest of positions they'd like to upgrade. I don't know if Breslow will be too willing to give up the remaining prospects the Red Sox have after calling up most of their best players over the last 2 seasons, but if the package is right let's see what they can do!

Ryan Jeffers

Twins Catcher

Potential Trade: Tyler Uberstine and Anthony Eyanson

There are a few other Catchers that make sense for the Red Sox to target like Athletics' Shay Langeliers and Reds' Tyler Stephenson, but Ryan Jeffers would make the MOST sense.

Ryan Jeffers' contract only runs through the 2026 season but is in the middle of his most productive season with a bat in his career. The righty Catcher has a .293 average and a .930 OPS through 46 games this season. A hand injury sidelined him for almost two months but has come back 2 weeks ago and has batted 10/35 since with 9 RBIs.

Jeffers has proven he's overcome his injury and as a 1-year rental Catcher, the Red Sox won't find anyone better. The asking price for Jeffers should be some organizational prospects that the Red Sox should be willing to give up if they're serious about making a run this season.

Zach Neto

Angels Shortstop

Potential Trade: Kyson Witherspoon, Anthony Eyanson and Caleb Durbin

Zach Neto would be a HUGE get for the Red Sox but there are a lot of indicators the Angels will need to be seriously over-compensated for the 25-year old All Star slugger.

The Angels are 42-65 and 2nd-to-last in the American League and definitely in sell mode but Neto is easily a Top-3 player on the team and at his young age should be the center of the Angels' future franchise plans. That being said, if a team like the Red Sox are willing to trade a generational return they will definitely be listening.

I have a package of Anthony Eyanson, Kyson Witherspoon and Caleb Durbin from the Sox which is... a lot. Durbin is likely not to be traded because of his defensive versatility but after the Mead trade, the Red Sox would be fools to not consider it to get Neto.

Durbin isn't even the biggest part, Eyanson and Witherspoon are the Red Sox top two pitching prospects even if they're years away from making the league. The Angels are in search of pitching prospects and to get two, stud RHPs and them along with a prospect already in the league that's doing well like Durbin might be enough to bring Neto to Boston.

Antonio Senzatela

Rockies Relief Pitcher

Potential Trade: Blake Wehunt and Allan Castro

The Red Sox haven't really been linked to many pitchers before the deadline but I would really love for them to bring in another 8th inning reliver and Senzatela has been on a tear this season and could come over for a cheap price tag.

The Rockies are willing to hear offers of middle-level pitching prospects for Senzatela's contract which is worth about $4 million for the rest of the season and has a Club Option of $14 Million in 2027. For a reliever with a 1.24 WHIP in 51 IP so far this season that's a great deal. The Red Sox have some relievers like Whitlock and Chapman that have been good this year, but for the low haul it would take to get him here I'd love for them to bolster their pen with Senzatela sooner than later.

Bobby Witt Jr.

Royals Shortstop

Potential Trade: Roman Anthony, Payton Tolle, Trevor Story and Mikey Romero

The Red Sox trading for Bobby Witt Jr. was all the rage last week and a "Pipe Dream" in reality but let's explore the possibiliy while we're already here right?

The Red Sox have tried their absolute hardest to make Trevor Story work as their Shortstop but the experiment is done and when he gets back should be traded for any ounce of value he has left. Andruw Monasterio is a decent piece but if we really want to carry our momentum and bring in a player that could seriously make us World Series contenders, Bobby Witt is one of the few real superstars that I believe a team would honestly listen to offers for before the deadline.

It will cost us so much though...

Roman Anthony, Payton Tolle, Mikey Romero and Trevor STory would probably be the package that could do it and as the writer of this article and diehard Red Sox fan, let me state now that I DO NOT WANT THEM TO DO THIS... but it'd defintiely be interesting.

Anthony is our future 3-hitter and Tolle is a future Ace and to trade them away in their 2nd season in the Majors would be almost unfathomable but talents like Bobby Witt Jr. just don't come around often.

With his torn finger ligament, Roman Anthony's stock among Red Sox fans may have fallen a bit but let's remember how nuts this kid is at the plate at only 22-years old. Then there's Tolle, who's character has not only made him an instant fan favorite in Boston but his 16 starts this season has been all gas and no brakes at only 23-years old himself.

This would be a franchise-altering trade and one that I already said has about a 2% chance of even happening.
