The Red Sox are drafting 15th in the upcoming MLB Draft that starts this Sunday and after following this team relentlessly for years now, I can safely say I know where they should go.

The youth movement inside the Red Sox organization has almost come to a crescendo after years of rebuilding and bringing up the "new era" of the team we've seen this year. With players like Roman Anthony, Cedanne Rafaela, Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell and more prospects still in the minors, the Red Sox have done a GREAT job drafting their future lineup.

Now, it's time for the rotation to get some love.

In the following picks I will be highlighting 5 pitchers and 2 position players the Red Sox SHOULD get but will also realistically be on the board at 15 as well:

Kruz Schoolcraft - LHP

18 years old

6'8" 229 lbs.

Oregon (HS)

Schoolcraft is one of if not the best High School Pitching prospects in this draft but may take a while to get to the Majors. At 6'8" tall and an ability to play two ways, on the mound and at First Base, Schoolcraft has an exceeding potential at both positions.

Teams like the Red Sox will likely want to hone his skills at pitching, where he has a fastball that reaches 97, a late-breaking slider he uses often and a changeup that makes batters look silly with 2-strikes.

His biggest hurdle will be to create more spin on his fastball that currently sits too flat for the upper leagues but scouts are confident that he will pick this up seeing how much stuff his slider has.

If the Red Sox don't mind Schoolcraft honing his craft in the Minors for 3 or 4 years, he has the potential to be an imposing and dominant presence on the mound for the future.

Gavin Fien - 3B

18 years old

6'3" 200 lbs.

California (HS)

Another High School project, Fien projects very similarly to Rafael Devers as a prospect. Committed to Texas, Fien's raw power and bat speed as an 18-year old is already eye-catching.

A minor knock on this high school hitter is his hand setup at the plate, a mechanic that showed when he struggled this past spring from the plate. If not for a drop off this season, Fien's bat would have likely brought him within the Top-10 picks. Once this is cleaned up, his ability to hit will be good and his power may become elite with a potential to add a lot more power to this youngster.

In the field, Fien has a solid arm but still could project to First in the pros or even DH. If coached and tooled correctly in the Minors for a few years, Fien could easily become one of the best bats in a Red Sox lineup down the road.

Gage Wood - RHP

21 years old

6'0" 205 lbs.

Arkansas

Wood has one of the top fastballs in this class and it was showcased in his 19-strikeout no-hitter in the College World Series versus Murray State. After only one year as a starter, Wood's stuff has been proven to be filthy.

What Wood hasn't proven is that he can stand a full workload as a starter. He missed a chunk of time this past season with a shoulder injury but was very good when he did play. If he manages to stay durable through 20+ starts a season, Wood could be a steal at 15.

At his floor, Wood will still be an above average Relief Pitching prospect with a fastball that grazes 99 and causes whiffs and a curveball that's shown promise.

Gavin Kilen - 2B/SS

21 years old

5'11" 187 lbs.

Tennessee

Kilen has actually been drafted by the Red Sox already, going in the 13th round before honoring his commitment to Louisville. Later transferring to Tennessee where he showed his true skill is his bat-to-ball ability as a true contact-hitting 2nd baseman prospect.

Currently sitting at SS, his speed and arm strength don't look like they'll develop enough to make a home at Short in the pros.

His performances in college got better and better every year, culminating in a .357/.441/.671 slash line this season and adding 15 home runs. Kilen may have been among the Top-5 hitters in all of college last season and considering his previous affiliation and admiration within the Red Sox, could be the odds-on favorite for this pick.

Tyler Bremner - RHP

21 years old

6'2" 190 lbs.

UC Santa Barbara

Bremner is similar to Wood in the sense that scouts were hoping to see more of him this season. A prospect with potential closer to a Top-10 ranking, Bremner's Fastball-Changeup combo is lethal and his versatility and willingness to start or come from the pen are very valuable to a team.

His potential comes from his 95-98 mph fastball backed up by a changeup with an almost 50% swing-and-miss rate. His third pitch slider has had problems backing up and isn't reliable yet which has caused concern.

This season was his first as a staple starter and while his numbers were down from last season's back-and-forth act, he still had a 1.02 WHIP and almost 13 K/9.

Marek Houston - SS

21 years old

6'3" 205 lbs.

Wake Forrest

Houston is among the best defensive shortstops in a loaded shortstop class. He's also the highest ranked college shortstop in the class and will likely be the first to make the Majors among his position in this class.

Houston's bat may never be elite, but his ability to hit for contact in high school carried through college where he's been able to add some muscle as well.

This pick makes sense for the Red Sox in particular because of his defensive anility and versatility. On a field that the Red Sox have struggled mightily on, Houston could be a future rock in the middle and if he can't crack the starting lineup, (currently being taken by Trevor Story) he would be a great utility man. Think of a better-version of David Hamilton that would be Majors ready in just about 2 years.

___________________________________

Kyson Witherspoon - RHP

20 years old

6'2" 206 lbs.

Oklahoma

Witherspoon is the first name on this list that I can say will likely NOT be here at 15, but in the chance that he is the Red Sox should run this pick to the podium.

With 3 good-to-great pitches and 2 more that have shown potential, Witherspoon combines excellent athleticism and good mechanics with several key pitches for a nasty arsenal he overwhelms hitters with. A fastball that hits 99, a high-80s slider that bends and drops and a cutter that blends very well with the former are his best pitches. Witherspoon has also shown potential with a curveball in the dirt and has been working on a changeup that reaches the upper-80s.

Witherspoon is currently ranked as the #10 prospect in this draft but with the emphasis in this class at heavy infield bats, it's very possible Witherspoon can fall to the teens and would be an amazing draftee for the Red Sox farm system.
