New York- After voting, the Big 10 committee has changed its view on the season and will start October 23
The committee wanted to ensure the health of athletic students and have a safety protocol included before the season could start. Since the season started late, they will play only nine games and will not have a bye because of the late start. Testing for students will start September. 30. If a student test positive for COVID 19, they will have to quarantine for 21 days before returning back for play.
“One of the things that we feel good about is daily testing,” Maryland Athletic Director Damon Evans said. “We hope [that] will put us in a position to really be able to contact trace and to, more specifically, provide a clean practice area, a clean field and limit the spread of the virus amongst teammates moving forward. So we will deal with things as they come. Obviously, it is going to be a tight window.”
