The Blue Jays, who finished last in the American League East division last year, are heading to the American League Divisional Series for the first time in nearly a decade, after defeating the New York Yankees 5-2 last night in the Bronx. The series clinching victory extends the Blue Jays win total to eleven games against the Yankees this season, which is the most head-to-head wins against any team this season.
The Blue Jays started the series with a bang, outscoring the Yankees in the first two games of the series, 23-10.
Game 2 is when the Blue Jays first faced some adversity. They powered their way to eleven unanswered runs, hitting four home runs in the first five innings. The Yankees attempted a late comeback, scoring five runs in the top of the seventh, but the Blue Jays bullpen stifled the Yankees hopes to make the game competitive towards the end. The Blue Jays would hold off the Yankees at home, winning 13-7.
The Blue Jays dropped Game 3, losing 9-6. A game highlighted by Aaron Judge's massive three-run home run off the left field in the fourth inning to tie the game at six. That was all the momentum the Yankees needed to take Game 3 in their home series opener.
Game 4 remained close through seven innings until the Blue Jays scored two runs on Nathan Lukes two-run single. Taking advantage of an error committed by Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm, which put runners on the corner with less than two outs. He would be one of three Blue Jays to record multiple hits in the series clincher.
The Blue Jays will await the winner of the other ALDS series between the Mariners and the Tigers. They will host Game 1 of the ALCS at Rogers Centre. That series will start on Sunday at 8:03 PM EST.
