For the second time in three years, the American League Championship Series will be heading to a winner-take-all Game 7 for the American League Pennant. The Blue Jays won Game 6, defeating the Mariners 6-2 in a sold out Rogers Centre.
The Blue Jays got a strong start from their 2024 first overall pick, Trey Yesavage. The 23-year old went 5.2 innings, only allowing two runs, and striking out seven in a win.
Yesavage also used his defense to get him out of jams in his start. He induced three straight inning-ending double plays to cut the Mariners rally short. Yesavage’s first three career double plays of his career came at a big spot.
Offensively, the Blue Jays slugged two home runs in the victory off of Mariners starting pitcher Logan Gilbert. Addison Barger got the long ball party started in the third, going down to get one of Gilbert’s signature splitters and depositing it into the bleachers for a two-run shot.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. got in on the action in the fifth, launching his third home run of the series and sixth of the postseason. Guerrero is the clear front runner for ALCS MVP. After his performance last night, he is now slashing .409/.519/.955, striking out only one time in 22 at-bats.
Tonight, the Blue Jays have a chance to win their first pennant in over 30 years, but it will not be easy. The Mariners are also hungry for a pennant. Winning tonight will give the Mariners their first pennant in franchise history.
Former Cy Young Award Winner Shane Bieber will take the mound for the Blue Jays, looking to repeat his last outing where he went six innings for his club in Game 3. First pitch is at 8:08 PM.
