Sunday night, the Philadelphia Phillies defeated their division rival, New York Mets, in a best of three series at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. The Phillies have now won four straight series after a 1-6 start to June. Third baseman Alec Bohm has been one of the main reasons for Philadelphia’s recent success.

Last night, Bohm’s modest seven game hitting came to an end. Despite that, Bohm helped the Phillies turn their season around. He is currently slashing .290/.328/.406. This month, Bohm has played some of the best baseball on the club, slashing .346/.388/.462 with two home runs. He also has seven multi-hit games this month alone, with seven games left in the month.

This season, Bohm was off to his worst start of his career, slashing .220/.254/.268 through his first 31 games. Part of that was his lack of discipline at the plate, and increased strikeout rate. In that stretch, Bohm had a seven-to-one strikeout to walk ratio. That is a recipe for disaster for a player whose bread and butter is making contact. This month, he has decreased the strikeout to walk ratio to two-to-one, which forced Phillies’ Manager Rob Thomson to move Bohm from seventh to third in the Phillies loaded lineup.

Bohm's turnaround has garnered some all-star attention. He is currently second in batting average (.290), second in hits (85), and fourth in on-base percentage (.328) among National League third baseman. He has also played a solid third base defensively, only committing three errors.

The Phillies look to finish the month strong. They will start a six-game road trip tomorrow night, matching up against a red-hot Houston Astros club. The Astros are winners of 9 of their last 12 games and have the most home wins in the American League currently. This will be a great challenge for this Phillies’ club, as they quickly approach the all-star break. The Phils will continue to need production from Bohm if they want to be successful on this road trip. First pitch will be 8:10 EST.
