This is it, the fantasy football playoffs are a week away, and this is many teams’ final chance to punch their ticket to the dance. If your team is currently on the bubble, with this week deciding your fate, or if you have secured your spot and are planning for the playoffs, here is my list of players to watch this coming weekend.
Quarterbacks
Marcus Mariota (WAS) - There are not too many options at quarterback left this late in the season, but a solid pickup for any team would be Mariota. The Commanders’ backup quarterback put up a valiant effort against one of the best defenses in the league on Sunday night. Mariota has done alright in the place of Jayden Daniels and is a good idea if one needs to fill in their quarterback spot.
Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars) - Another good option is Lawrence, who is still widely available, being rostered on 34% of teams. He has led the Jaguars to an 8-4 record and is currently threatening the Colts for supremacy in the AFC South. With momentum on their side, Lawrence could make some noise in the final four weeks of the season, making him a great pickup for the playoffs.
Running Backs
Chris Rodriguez Jr. (WAS) - Rodriguez Jr. was a solid runner against the Broncos on Sunday. He scored a touchdown on 11 carries for 41 yards. Rodriguez Jr. has scored a touchdown in three of his last four games and is leading Washington in carries the past two weeks. Expect him to get even more action in the coming weeks.
Blake Corum (Los Angeles Rams) - Corum is another solid option for fantasy managers. When Kyren Williams briefly left the game against the Panthers on Sunday, the football world got to see what a running game led by Corum would look like, and it looked good. Corum rushed seven times for 81 yards and a touchdown. He will still be the No. 2 option to Williams, but will still play a role in the Rams’ offense. He is a great backup plan if your team has Williams already, but he is still a solid addition to any roster.
Wide Receivers
Christian Watson (GB) - Watson has been lighting it up lately for the Packers’ offense and is starting to slip away from availability. That said, he is rostered on 52% of rosters, so there is still a chance to pick him up, but time is waning. If you need the boost at receiver, pick Watson up now.
Mike Evans (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) - Evans has been out since Week 7 with a collarbone injury. However, he is getting closer to making a return. He will not play against the Saints this coming weekend, but he is starting to practice with the team again. He will be a great pickup for the playoffs.
Tight Ends
Brenton Strange (JAX) - Strange made three catches for 45 yards and a touchdown on Sunday against the Titans. Strange has scored at least 10 points in his last four games when he is healthy. He will be a key part of the Jaguars’ offense this Sunday against the Colts in a crucial AFC South matchup. If you need a tight end, Strange is getting hot at the right time.
Dalton Schultz (HOU) - Schultz is also another solid option at the tight end position. He had seven catches for 55 yards against the Colts after having a down game against the Bills. He has now scored 11+ points in four of his last five games. He looks to be another reliable player for managers going into the postseason.
Defense/Special Teams
Tampa Bay Buccaneers D/ST - The Buccaneers defense has been a solid unit all season, but it will have a good matchup against the sputtering Saints. The Bucs will play a big role in the success of any team this coming week.
Washington Commanders D/ST - The Commanders held strong with the Broncos on Sunday night and have a favorable matchup against a struggling Minnesota Vikings offense. There is a chance the Commanders create a lot of turnovers, leading to a surplus in points.
