Joe Milton Traded to Cowboys for Peanuts

The Patriots have sent 2nd-year QB Joe Milton III along with a 7th round pick (217) to the Cowboys this morning for a 5th round pick (#171) in this years NFL Draft.

With Milton's aura making fans and managers alike believe his worth was a lot higher than a 5th rounder, many Patriots fans are shocked about how little we got back for the 25-year old. Milton had one start last season but showed true potential going 22-29 for 241 yards and a TD in a Week 18 win vs the Bills.

Milton's biggest positive trait is his arm strength. A co-record holder at the NFL Combine for fastest throw ever at 62 MPH, Milton's throw power is off the charts and was the biggest factor of the potential Patriots fans saw and expected a higher trade value around.

Milton will be the backup to Dak Prescott now but Patriots fans don't be worried, Josh Dobbs was brought in this spring on a 2-year deal to be the solid backup and mentor to Drake Maye. The addition of Dobbs on a 2-year deal all but guaranteed Milton's departure this offseason which is another reason for his low value.

The bottom line is Joe Milton's lone start came in a Week 18 game in which BOTH teams were resting starters. Yes, he looked good but it was essentially garbage time. Milton was drafted just last season with pick 193 and the Patriots return for him will be pick 171. Not a huge trade up on a Quarterback with serious potential but more than if he were sitting as the 3rd string QB on the bench.
