The Diamondbacks have continued to grow from within their farm system. Players like Corbin Carroll and Zac Gallen have represented the club for the past couple seasons, but the D-backs have another young star looking to make an impact on the franchise. D-backs shortstop Geraldo Perdomo is having a breakout year, and it is catching the attention of the league.
The Santa Domingo native was signed by the D-backs in 2016 as an amateur free agent at 15 years old. Perdomo would spend six seasons in the minors before getting a shot at the big league level. As he was going through the minor league system, Perdomo was known as one of the best fielding prospects in the minors. His smoothness and athleticism at shortstop always stood out, but where he struggled to show consistency was at the dish.
Perdomo would make his debut in 2021 and would not show consistency at the plate until the 2023 postseason. Where he hit two home runs in the D-backs Cinderella run to the World Series, with one of them coming off Phillies ace, Zack Wheeler in Game 1 of the 2023 NLCS.
Perdomo’s development as a player was noticed by the D-backs front office as well. In the 2025 off-season, Perdomo signed a four-year extension to stay in the desert and become a part of the club’s future, and the deal has immediately paid dividends for the Snakes.
In 2025, Pedromo is having a career year and is gardening some MVP talks around the league. The 25-year-old is slashing .290/.390/.459 with 19 home runs and 31 doubles, all career highs. The most impressive part is that he has been this productive, while playing the seventh most games in the league this season (157) and only striking out 78 times in 581 at-bats.
The D-backs are currently on the outside looking in. They are one game back of the New York Mets for the third and final Wild Card spot, with four games remaining in the season. The D-backs look to bounce back from a loss last night against the Dodgers and take the series this afternoon.
The D-backs will conclude the regular season this weekend in San Diego. Pedromo must remain hot if his club has any chance of clinching a playoff berth this season.
