NCAAMB Game of the Night: Honor Huff Powers West Virginia 14-Point Comeback

CINCINNATI VS WEST VIRGINIA

Wednesday night, the West Virginia Mountaineers looked to get back to their winning ways as they traveled northwest to face a struggling Cincinnati Bearcat team. The Bearcats have lost 3 of their last 4, but looked to get back above .500 with a win against West Virginia. 


West Virginia would come back from 14 down to defeat Cincinnati 59-54. West Virginia seniors Honor Huff and Brenen Lorient each finished with double figures in the victory.


In the first half, the Bearcats came out of the locker room on a mission. Cincinnati opened up the game on a 11-2 run, and maintained a healthy lead throughout the first half. Cincinnati held West Virginia to 20 first half points, which is their second lowest first half point total all season.


Down by as much as 13, West Virginia went on a 6-0 to cut the lead down to 7 at the 2:31 mark of the first half, but closed the half on 4 unanswered points to close the half up 30-20. 


In the first half, the Bearcats were led by senior forward Baba Miller, who scored 10 points. The Mountaineers were led by senior forward Brenen Lorient, who scored 8 points.


A halftime lead has boded well for Cincinnati this season. Coming into Wednesday night, the Bearcats, 10-1 when leading at halftime. 


Cincinnati would start the second half on a 7-3 run to grab their largest lead of the game at 14. West Virginia responded with a run of their own. The Mountaineers 14-0 scoring run was powered by senior guard Honor Huff.


West Virginia’s leading scorer scored all 16 of his points in the second half. Huff scored 13 straight points for the Mountaineers, single-handedly giving West Virginia their first lead of the game at the 10:13 mark of the second half.


For the next 8 minutes it would remain a one possession game until West Virginia created separation. West Virginia closed the game on a 9-5 run. 


Key to Victory: Honor Huff 


Honor Huff scored 13 straight points to give West Virginia the first lead of the game. This run would power West Virginia’s comeback.
