The New England Patriots have extended their league tied-best win streak to 7 with their 24-23 Win vs Atlanta this weekend. When the game came down to the final minutes, it was Atlanta Kicker and former Patriot-cut Parker Romo missed an Extra Point attempt that would have tied the game with less than 5 minutes on the clock.

Game Summary

The game started well enough for the Patriots when the Patriots march down the field and score after a 10-play, 75-yard drive. The drive would conclude with a 17-yard catch and run by Pop Douglas who on the day had the first 100-yard receiving game in his career, (7-0, 7:44 1st).

After a strong defensive-1st Quarter for both teams, the Falcons would also score a Touchdown to tie the game. The 1-yard pass would be Drake London's first of the day, (7-7, :24 1st).

That firsts score really got to the Patriots because on the very next drive they would have another march. After 12 plays and 65 yards, Terrell Jennings would run the ball in the end zone from 3 yards out, also his first career Touchdown, (14-7, 8:52 2nd).

The Patriots would step up on defense and grab a 3-and-out immediately after then turn right around and drive 72 yards down the field for an 11-yard TD grab from Stefon Diggs, (21-7, 5:11 2nd).

Another back-and-forth would take place before they got the ball back and would end up committing their first turnover of the game. On a 1st & 10 at midfield, Drake Maye would drop back with under a minute to go and take a sack but fumble the ball. The Falcons' impressive rookie edge rushers would make them pay as Jalon Walker stripped the ball and James Pearce would recover and run the ball all the way to the 6-yard line with less than :30 left in the half. Only 2 plays later, Michael Penix would throw his 2nd TD to Drake London of the game, (21-14, :23 2nd) right before they'd head into halftime.

Starting the 2nd half off right, the Pats would go on another long drive that would end in a 32-yard field goal, (24-14, 6:26 3rd.)

With everything going right for the Patriots for the first 3-quarters of the game, Drake Maye would make his 2nd turnover of the game when the Patriots got the ball back. On a 2nd & 10 at midfield, Maye would throw an errant pass that was taken by All-Pro Safety Jessie Bates. This second turnover really changed the momentum of the game and the Falcons would run the ball down the field and set up a field goal of their own just after the 4th Quarter started, (24-17, 14:08 4th).

The Falcons would really heat up on defense and cause another punt from New England. Once they got the ball back they would turn the tables and have their own long, successful drive and would end with one of the most incredible one-handed grab by... guess who? Drake London for his 3rd score of the game. Then incredibly... Parker Romo would slice the extra point wide right to keep the Patriots' lead intact, (24-23, 4:40 4th).

The Good

This wasn't the best game of the Patriots' win streak but it was a win nonetheless. The Pats held the ball and controlled the tempo of the game with their long drives. They would also run the ball much more effectively than the Falcons with their combination of TreVeyon Henderson and Terrell Jennings who came into this game with only 7 carries on the year.

On defense, one of the best gameplans of the year came out as the Pats' controlled Bijan Robinson and held the Star RB to only 46 rush yards on 12 carries. Guys stepped up all game against the run including Robert Spillane, Christian Eliss and K'Lavon Chaisson.

One of the stars of the game has to go to Tre Henderson would had his first start of the year with Rhamondre out. Running the ball for 55 yards and adding 32 yards through the air, Henderson was getting consistent 4 or 5-yard plays when the team needed it most during their long drives.

The Bad

Their were a few areas the Pats could have stepped up for sure. One of the best receiver performances we've seen all year happened under their noses as Drake London went off. With 9 catches, 118 yards and 3 Touchdowns, London made Christian Gonzalez have his worst game of the year.

The team may have stopped everyone else besides London which was effective ultimately but they can NOT let that happen again as they start to face better passing attacking teams down the road.

Looking to Next Week

The Patriots have had this game circled on their calendar all year as they will travel down to Tampa next weekend. On a 7-game win streak that includes a tough away win in Buffalo as well, the Patriots are 2.5-point underdogs.

The pass defense will be the major key of emphasis this week. Going up against Baker Mayfield who is Top-3 in the MVP ladder right now has been daunting to every Secondary this season and with the Falcons throwing 3 pass TDs on their head this week, the Pats will need to step up.

On offense, monitoring Rhamondre Stevenson's toe injury will be key as the veteran Running Back will look to get back on the field.

Besides Stevenson, the Patriots and Drake Maye just needs to be ready to throw that ball. Maye has obviously been on a roll this season even after turning the ball over 3 times in 2 years. The Buccaneers have the 22nd ranked pass defense this season and a beat up Secondary.

This game will be the Patriots biggest test since Sunday Night in Buffalo, but is absolutely a game they can win if they spread the ball around on offense like they have been and don't turn the ball over. VERY easily could extend this thing to 8.
