In the Pacific Northwest it is booming like never before, thanks to the core of the Seattle Mariners lineup. Cal Raleigh and Eugenio Suarez have reunited in 2025 and are wreaking havoc at the dish.
Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh drilled his 50th home run of the season Monday night and third baseman Eugenio Suarez drilled his 42nd home run of the season yesterday afternoon. This season, Raleigh and Suarez became the sixth duo in MLB history to hit 40+ home runs in a single season, and the second pair of Mariners to achieve the feat (Ken Griffey and Jay Buhner in 1997).
Cal Raleigh is on pace to become the first Mariner to win AL MVP since Hall of Fame outfielder Ichiro Suzuki did in 2001. Raleigh is slashing .244/.351/.587 with a league-leading 50 home runs and 107 RBI. He is doing this, while catching in a league-leading 99 games.
Raleigh has already reached so many milestones this season, and Monday he added another to his already historic year. Raleigh now stands alone as the only primary catcher in MLB history to hit 50 home runs. He also became the first switch hitter in MLB History to hit 20+ home runs from each side in a single season.
Eugenio Suarez added more juice to an already loaded Mariners lineup when he was acquired in July. Suarez is slashing .237/.309/.549 and is currently on a two-game home run streak. Suarez has a history of being streaky throughout his career, but this year he had arguably his best power streaks of his career.
In April, Suarez became the 19th player in MLB history to hit four home runs in a single game, and in July, Suarez hit six home runs in a nine day span. Suarez is also creeping up on his career-high 49 home runs that he hit in 2019 as a member of the Cincinnati Reds. He is sitting at 42 with 28 games left in the season. If Suarez reaches 50, Raleigh and Suarez would be the second duo in MLB history to hit 50+ home runs in a single season, joining Hall of Fame duo Roger Maris (61) and Mickey Mantle (54), who achieved the feat in 1961.
The Mariners are currently sitting in the last Al Wild Card spot heading into a big weekend series with the Cleveland Guardians. The Guardians are five games back from and just came off a series win against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday. The Mariners will need the power output from their superstars down the stretch if they want to hold on to a playoff position in a competitive AL Wild Card race.
