Team Overview

With a lower ceiling than years prior, the 49ers will have to perform to their biggest potential to have any playoff hopes. Not saying it's impossible, with one of the best coaches in the league and a returning DC with a lot of qualities, the team does have some roster problems. To make it possible for Brock Purdy's new contract, the team let walk, traded or released several key players from last season.
They then went on to draft and sign a few great pieces on their defense, making them the strong side of this team and a side of the ball they'll have to rely on next season. With the biggest weaknesses still stemming form the D-line and especially their o-line, the 49ers will have a whole new feel this season.
No matter how good the coaches are and how well they rebuild their roster, the biggest enemy for the 49ers over the past 5 seasons has been injury. By coincidence or not, the most injured team by far pver that span need to stay healthy to have any chance... and yes i'm talking to you McCaffrey. If they do, and they fall into their defense and coaching, they have a decent year ahead of them.

Week1: @ Seahawks
The season opener for the 49ers happens a little up the coast in Seattle where they've won their last 3 matchups. The 49ers offense definitely has some cracks and against a Seattle offense who has potential, the game in Seattle will get away from them
Prediction: Seahawks 27-21

Week 2: @ Saints
The 49ers get another road trip but this time all the way to New Orleans. Without any identity, the Saints' offense doesn't stand much of a chance against the retooled defense from San Francisco.
Prediction: 49ers 21-10

Week 3: vs Cardinals
The home and divisional opener for San Francisco. A very capable Cardinals team should have an uptick in offense from last year that will trouble the 49ers. With an upgraded pass rush as well, the Cardinals upset the 9ers here.
Prediction: Cardinals 28-20

Week 4: vs Jaguars
After a troubling home loss last week, the 49ers step up their game against another improved offense. With the Jaguars throwing the ball all over the field, it's likely a Lawrence-interception is their undoing here.
Prediction: 49ers 23-17

Week 5: @ Rams (TNF)
A big game at this point in the season, Thursday night will see another NFC West showdown. The 49ers secondary will have to be on point in this one and even then, they probably won't be able to outscore them.
Prediction: Rams 34-26
___________________________________
Week 6: @ Buccaneers
Another tough game and another long road trip. The front-7 of the Buccs will be the biggest problem against a rebuilding 49ers o-line. If Purdy can stay upright and the defense plays how they're capable of, they actually have a good matchup on paper.
Prediction: 49ers 28-24
___________________________________
Week 7: vs Falcons (SNF)
Back at home for Sunday Night football, they are in the midst of their most winnable section of their schedule. The Falcons offense will be unpredictable with Michael Penix but safe to say a loooong road trip against a good secondary won't be his best performance.
Prediction: 49ers 27-17
___________________________________
Week 8: @ Texans
This game is my pick for the best game on the 49ers schedule. A tough road trip and tough matchup between two teams in a similar position. The Texans have home field but the 49ers have experience and coaching on their side. One huge play will likely make the difference and I actually like the 49ers to make that play.
Prediction: 49ers 27-24
___________________________________
Week 9: @ Giants
The 49ers may spend more on travel this season than any one players' contract. Luckily for them a matchup versus the Giants should be a win whether at home or on the road.
Prediction: 49ers 27-17
___________________________________
Week 10: vs LAR
A chance at revenge from earlier in the season just as the 49ers hit a 4-game win streak. The momentum and defensive play has reached it's height of the season and even then, the Rams may be too good a roster for the 49ers to stop.
Prediction: Rams 30-23
___________________________________
Week 11: @ Cardinals
A 2nd divisional game in a row and another chance for redemption. The Cardinals may have outlasted the 49ers last time but with their defense on point and the offense gaining serious momentum, give the 49ers the decisive revenge for this one.
Prediction: 49ers 31-21

Week 12: vs Panthers (MNF)
This one is hard to predict because I can't for the life of me decide how I think Bryce Young will play this year. His young receiving core should be good enough to make them a threat and the defense is definitely, but to beat the 49ers at home might be a stretch.
Prediction: 49ers 23-20
___________________________________
Week 13: @ Browns
Their final game before the BYE Week, they must make another long trip to Cleveland and contend with a very good defense. This game should be a very low-scoring affair and right around when Deshaun Watson could come back. Give me the home upset.
Prediction: Browns 26-23
___________________________________
Week 14: BYE Week
At 8-5, the 49ers are in the hunt for both the Wild Card and even the division. With 3 of their last 4 games all happening at home, they sit at a great spot. Their defense has been solid this year and their offense is still improving. As long as the 49ers stay away from the injury big they've seen in year's past, they can really do some damage this season.
___________________________________
Week 15: vs Titans
After an extra week of prep and a home game, the inexperienced Titans have little to no shot in this one. Expect a rookie Cam Ward to make mistakes and the 49ers to take full advantage.
Prediction: 49ers 28-14
___________________________________
Week 16: @ Colts (MNF)
The last road game of the year and in Indianapolis for Monday Night Football. A peculiar team, the Colts have a great roster but their QB complications limit them. If either Richardson or Jones can stay on point, the home field may be enough.
Prediction: Colts 31-27
___________________________________
Week 17: vs Bears (SNF)
A very good matchup and home field advantage for the 9ers, the Bears offense will be a LOAD to deal with. The 49ers will be forced to outduel their opposition here as two of the best offensive coaches go to war. In the end, I think the Bears have too much of a roster to lose.
Prediction: Bears 34-30
___________________________________
Week 18: vs Seahawks (TBD)
At 9-7, the 49ers will likely be battling the Seahawks for a Wild Card spot here which will make it a prime time game. In San Francisco and against a Sam Darnold-led Seahawks who I really do not trust, I'll take the 49ers to finish strong here.
Prediction: 49ers 28-24
___________________________________

The 49ers finish with a 10-7 record, going 5-3 at home and only 2-4 in the NFC West division.
A terrible showing in their division may outshine an otherwise good season from this team. The defense was the focus in the offseason and it really showed, allowing only 4 opponents over 30 points.
The 49ers should make the 6 or 7 seed in the NFC and possibly set them up for a 3rd matchup with the Rams. The ceiling on this team is definitely the first or second round of the playoffs but a good showing from their young roster is all they need to look toward the future.
