Team Overview

Ahh the Jets, the rest of the league's inside joke. The Jets have had the same team rebuild for the past 20 years and it's, New Coach and QB, Injuries, Disappointment, Firings and Top-5 pick. Right now they are in Step 1 of the process and have a lot of potential around new Head Coach Aaron Glenn.

With the Aaron Rodger experiment firmly in the rear view, Justin Fields was signed to captain this team but has unfortunately gone down with a dislocated toe in Training Camp and may miss some time in the beginning of the season. The team has done a good job rebuilding their O-line to a point it could be a Top-12 unit in the league next year. On defense, Sauce Gardner is still one of the best in the league but has seen multiple added players replace known pro bowlers like DJ Reed in the past two seasons.

It's very hard to imagine a world where the Jets make the playoffs but they do have a lot of hope and potential behind a new, seemingly legit coaching staff and stars like Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Quinnen Williams and Breece Hall. Can 2025 be the start of a new regime, the beginning of a new era for the Jets or another year of the same old team that hasn't made the playoffs since 2010? Let's break it down, game-by-game.

Week 1: vs Steelers

An Aaron Rodgers revenge game in Week 1 is a great way for the new Jets team to asses themselves. What should turn out to be a hugely defensive battle, if Justin Fields is back for Game 1, I can see the Jets taking their home opener in an upset.

Prediction: Jets 24-20

Week 2: vs Bills

In a second home game in a row, the Bills won't go down as easy as the Steelers. In a divisional matchup that's seen the Bills take 8 of the last 10 games, the Bills may run into some problems with the Jets' secondary at first but that won't stop them for long.

Prediction: Bills 28-17

Week 3: @ Buccaneers

A great matchup for the Jets' new defense, even though Sauce Gardner may take Mike Evans completely out of the game the Buccs are still too deep and will outduel them here.

Prediction: Buccaneers 27-21

Week 4: @ Dolphins (MNF)

First primetime game of the year and the Jets will have their hands full. A hole in the Miami defense will be with the corners and the Jets will attempt to throw the ball a lot in this game. Justin Fields will make a lot of plays happen in this one but I feel the Dolphins will do just enough to win.

Prediction: Dolphins 26-24

Week 5: vs Cowboys

Back at home against an underrated Cowboys' offense, the Jets will have to put up some points to keep pace with them. A secondary that's more bark than bite, I can see Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall both having big games but the Cowboys winning at the very end of it.

Prediction: Cowboys 30-24

Week 6: vs Broncos (NFL Europe Game)

In most circumstances the Jets-Broncos game is an ultra low-scoring Broncos win but the location of it changes everything. With the Jets 1-4 and the Broncos 3-5 in international games, the game could come down to who turns the ball over least.

Prediction: Jets 17-13

___________________________________

Week 7: vs Panthers

Technically there 5th home game in 7 weeks, the Jets have the advantage over a team with a wide range of potential on both sides of the ball. Even though Bryce Young looks ready to carry on with the form of last season, the Jets' offense will have the better matchup in this one.

Prediction: Jets 28-21

___________________________________

Week 8: @ Bengals

A huge matchup against one of the best pass games in the NFL, the Jets will need to be ready from start to finish especially in their secondary. Behind Sauce Gardner doing his best to lock up Ja'Marr Chase, I'll actually take the stingy defense of Aaron Glenn to come out of this one with a solid win.

Prediction: Jets 21-17

___________________________________

Week 9: BYE Week

After a 1-4 start, the Jets head into their mid-season BYE Week with a .500 record and a 3-game win streak momentum. Lead by the defense, the Jets will need to keep up with their strengths and try to be more dynamic on offense. The second half of their schedule has a lot of favorable matchups and they have a legitimate shot to chase their playoff dreams.

Week 10: vs Browns

Two teams with much better offenses than defenses, the home field advantage after an extra week of prep will be the decider here. With Flacco set to start the season, who knows who will be at the helm at this point for the Browns.

Prediction: Jets 20-10

___________________________________

Week 11: @ Patriots (TNF)

On short notice and in New England, the Jets will have to contend with a team that has an all-around better roster. Behind Mike Vrabel and the new additions to the defense, the Patriots should be able to shut down the Jets or at the very least outscore them at home.

Prediction: Patriots 21-17 ___________________________________

Week 12: @ Ravens

Another away game against a tougher opponent, the Jets don't have much of a chance in this one unfortunately. A loaded roster from top to bottom, the Jets Front-7 could do some damage in the early going but not enough to get the upset.

Prediction: Ravens 24-21

___________________________________

Week 13: vs Falcons

I have my reservation about Atlanta but as long as Penix has his feet from under him they should be building momentum by this point in the season. With a new and improved pass rush and a formidable secondary, the Falcons shut down the Jets' offense and win in a low-scoring, probably sloppy game.

Prediction: Falcons 19-13

___________________________________

Week 14: vs Dolphins

After losing in Miami earlier in the year, the Jets will be out for some revenge and to break their current 3-game slide. The Miami offense shined in the last matchup but they will run into the Jets' defense in a much more difficult matchup this time and come up short.

Prediction: Jets 27-24

___________________________________

Week 15: @ Jaguars

The Jags have made a lot of improvements to their roster behind new Head Coach Liam Coen and may be perfectly-built to beat a roster like the Jets. Behind their young and athletic secondary and a pass game that could become elite this year, the Jags will take this one in their stadium.

Prediction: Jaguars 30-21

___________________________________

Week 16: @ Saints

The Saints have a pretty decent defense and a O-line that's on it's way up and could pose a real threat to the Jets. In New Orleans, whoever is the Saints QB will have to not turn the ball over to win and I don't know if i trust any of them to do that.

Prediction: Jets 23-17

___________________________________

Week 17: vs Patriots

Back at home with playoff implications, the Jets are 7-8 and have two divisional matchups to go. The Patriots are also playing for a playoff spot and besides being a game up on the Jets at this point, they're also a much better roster.

Prediction: Patriots 34-21

___________________________________

Week 18: @ Bills

With the playoffs officially out of the question, the Jets might hold on to some pride and try to win the last game of the year. The Bills could be in a spot to rest their starters but it seems like they'd still get the job done anyway.

Prediction: Bills 23-21

___________________________________

The Jets finish the season at 7-10 with a 5-4 home record and a 1-5 record in the AFC East.

As far as Head Coach-debuting seasons go, Aaron Glenn's first year in New York was not bad at all. Missing the playoffs, Glenn's attention to the defense came in handy and held offenses to 24 points or less in 11 games this season.

Justin Fields injury could put a damper on things in the beginning of the season but he seems like he'll be back soon enough. With another NFL off season to rebuild, plenty of money to sign talent and a burgeoning young core on offense and defense, this season was less about Glenn changing the franchise overnight and more of a statement of things to come.
