Team Overview

The Lions were the #1 seed in the entire NFL last year and were thought to be unstoppable before they ran into a white hot-Commanders team in the playoffs. During the offseason, the Lions would be picked dry but not in their roster... in their coaching. Including their OC, DC and Pass game coordinator, the Lions would lose a total of 7 assistants and coaches.

For personnel, the Lions lost several great players like Carlton Davis, Kevin Zeitler and Za'Darius Smith. The team would re-sign most of the rest of the team and bring in big name CB D.J. Reed to take over for Davis. All-in-all the Lions lost a bit on their o-line and d-line but have just about the same roster as last year's 15-2 season.

The coaching will be the biggest hurdle for them to get over and it can't be overstated how big of a hurdle it will be. Let's see just how much it affects them as we go over the Lions 2025 season, game-by-game.

Week 1: @ Packers

To open their season the Lions travel to their biggest division rival in a massive showdown. The defensive changes without Aaron Glenn will be apparent against the loaded offensive weapons in Green Bay. After a long, heavyweight battle the Lions let this one slip at the very end.

Prediction: Packers 31-28

Week 2: vs Bears

In their home opener, the Bears come to town with their new offense behind Ben Johnson. The former Lions OC has given this Bears team a new identity but hasn't quite gotten to the defense. With the Lions having knowledge of Johnson's schemes, this shootout goes to the Lions.

Prediction: Lions 37-31

___________________________________

Week 3: @ Ravens (MNF)

The first primetime game on their schedule and it happens in Baltimore. This game will be one of the best of the season but with Baltimore's defense improving this offseason, the Lions will come up just short behind a rough game from Goff.

Prediction: Ravens 26-23

___________________________________

Week 4: vs Browns

Back at home against a Browns team without an identity, the Lions are able to win comfortably but struggle on offense. The Browns defense is very good but problems with the Lions' play calling begin to show.

Prediction: Lions 17-7

___________________________________

Week 5: @ Bengals

The Bengals at home will be a tall order for anyone this season. With the Lions defense best unit being their secondary, this game could turn into who can control the line of scrimmage. With the Bengals defense looking like it's held together y duct tape, the Lions outlast them here.

Prediction: Lions 28-27

___________________________________

Week 6: @ Chiefs

3 away games in 4 week versus the Ravens, Bengals and now Chiefs. The last time these two faced each other was opening day 2 years ago when the Lions got the upset. This time however, the Chiefs defense will be superior and another great game is lost by the Lions.

Prediction: Chiefs 27-21

___________________________________

Week 7: vs Buccaneers (MNF)

Another big test for the Lions and their secondary. Without Aaron Glenn this game will turn into a shootout and I think I'd actually take the Buccaneers offense in that scenario but just barely.

Prediction: Buccaneers 35-31

___________________________________

Week 8: BYE Week

After their 15-2 season last year the Lions now sit at their 2025 BYE week 3-4. The incredible schedule is too blame for a lot of their losses but their defense has also been completely different without Aaron Glenn.

___________________________________

Week 9: vs Vikings

The Vikings could have some boom or bust this season but the Lions are in the perfect position and after a 2-game loss streak and at home, there's 0% chance they lose this one.

Prediction: Lions 31-21

___________________________________

Week 10: @ Commanders

The Lions travel to Washington for another probable shootout. With Jayden Daniels likely to have a bit of a drop off next season and the Lions secondary gelling after their first half mishaps, I believe the Lions handle business in Washington.

Prediction: Lions 28-24

___________________________________

Week 11: @ Eagles

Another NFC East contest but this time at the home of the defensing World Champions. With a lot of momentum after 2-straight wins, the Lions will take the Eagles to the brink and either team will win this one at the very end. Home field advantage may be the only deciding factor in this one.

Prediction: Eagles 27-24

___________________________________

Week 12: vs Giants

This game seems like a mismatch to most fans but the Giants' new secondary will actually give the Lions all they can handle. The Lions will obviously win this one but through a lot of adversity and maybe even a game-winning drive at the end.

Prediction: Lions 24-21

___________________________________

Week 13: vs Packers (Thanksgiving Game)

After their Week 1 loss, the Lions will be ready for the Packers this Thanksgiving. Winning 3 of their last 4, their momentum will take them over the edge and the offense will finally be showcased as they throw the ball all over the Packers' secondary.

Prediction: Lions 31-24

___________________________________

Week 14: vs Cowboys (TNF)

In a short week vs the underrated Cowboys, the Lions have the advantage of being in Detroit for the last 18 days leading up to this showdown. With the Lions gaining serious momentum right now even the best teams in the league will have to play the perfect game.

Prediction: Lions 27-21

___________________________________

Week 15: @ Rams

Speaking of the perfect game, with the Rams pass game even better in Los Angeles, they could really take advantage of the Lions' D. In the annual Matt Stafford and Jared Goff-revenge game, the Rams get their first win against Goff's new club.

Prediction: Rams 27-23

___________________________________

Week 16: vs Steelers

After a few games of shootouts, this game back in Detroit should be a battle of two weathered defenses. Between Mike Tomlin and Dan Campbell, the amount of scrimmage-controlling and defensive centered football will be high. The better offense in Detroit will push them over the edge though.

Prediction: Lions 20-16

___________________________________

Week 17: @ Vikings

In a second matchup against the Vikings, this will probably be the game where Justin Jefferson rips up the Lions' secondary. The good thing about the Lions at this point is their momentum and chemistry are on fire and all other aspects will probably go to the away team.

Prediction: Lions 28-19

___________________________________

Week 18: @ Bears (TBD)

This could very well be a battle for the NFC North. With the Lions' defense already holding off the Bears earlier in the season, this game will be everything to Chicago. In front a home crowd, Caleb Williams and the Bears outduel Goff's Lions with one of the most passing yards and highest scoring games of the year. Instant classic before the playoffs.

Prediction: Bears 42-37

___________________________________

The Lions have a 10-7 record in this exercise with a 7-1 home record and a 4-2 record in the NFC North.

After a very bad 3-4 start to their season, a well-timed BYE Week set the tone for a 7-3 second half. The offense had the better season of the two units for this team but with a very young and promising secondary, both sides of the ball performed well.

With an ultra-competitive NFC North this season, even a 10-7 record will likely grab them a Wild Card spot and face off against a team like the Buccs or 49ers. A very possible win there and then a possible third matchup against an NFC North team means the Lions could totally get to another Conference Championship.
