Team Overview

The Texans are uncomfortably approaching levels of Quarterback neglect not seen since the Colts in the mid-2010's with Andrew Luck. With 90 sacks in his first two seasons, the Texans corrected this by... trading their franchise Left Tackle in the off season.
They would sign and draft several O-lineman as well rebuilding the entire unit by scratch but not in a way that screams improvement. Even so, this team is very talented and behind phenom QB C.J. Stroud should still win the AFC South for the 3rd year in a row.
The biggest marks of this off season for the Texans were the O-line tooling, signing Super Bowl champion DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson and also drafting a pair of Iowa State wide receivers for more offensive firepower. Sadly, missing from the receiver room is Tank Dell who is assumed to be out for the entire 2025 season after his gruesome leg injury in Week 16 of last year. Even without Dell this team has a lot of potential on both sides of the ball and should make another run for the playoffs. What is their ceiling with Stroud this year? Let's break it down, game-by-game.

Week 1: @ Rams
Starting their season off on a long West Coast road trip is never ideal but should make for an exciting start to the season for fans. A game sure to see two high-powered offenses, the Texans O-line will be immediately tested by the Rams pass rush. If C.J. Stroud doesn't make some magic happen, I think the Rams will hold the Texans down just enough for the win here.
Prediction: Rams 27-21

Week 2: vs Buccaneers (MNF)
Back at home and on Monday Night Football, the Texans have a good matchup here. The pass rush in Tampa isn't as good as the Rams and it should be manageable enough for the Texans to give Stroud some time and take it to the Buccs.
Prediction: Texans 27-24
___________________________________
Week 3: @ Jaguars
An AFC South battle down in Jacksonville is never easy but no team has done better than the Texans, winning the last 7 matchups in Jacksonville. Behind a new offense with Liam Coen and a burgeoning defense with good pass rush and secondary, I'll take the Jaguars here for a home game win.
Prediction: Jaguars 24-21
___________________________________
Week 4: vs Titans
Another AFC South battle against the rebuilding Titans should see a happier end for Texans fans as the Titans don't have much of a shot in this one. For a season solely meant to help Cam Ward progress, the #1 pick will face a stingy secondary and tough pass rush and have a hard time doing anything this week.
Prediction: Texans 24-10
___________________________________
Week 5: @ Ravens
A great matchup between two franchises that should be among the best over the next 5 years, the Ravens will be too good especially at home for the Texans to stop. As in a lot of matchups we'll see on this list, the Ravens pass rush will be the deciding factor.
Prediction: Ravens 35-24

Week 6: BYE Week
An early BYE Week, the Texans will have to gear up for their remaining 12 games with a 2-3 record. The Texans' defense has been better than expected so far with stars Jonathan Greenard and Derek Stingley leading the way and CJ Stroud doing everything he can to make plays despite running for his life. While the O-line isn't as bad as 2024's, it will need to be better for this team to live up to it's potential.

Week 7: @ Seahawks (MNF)
The extra week of prep will be much needed for this West Coast road trip to Seattle. A team who's defense could be special this year and with an unpredictable offense, I can see this being a slugfest and probably the Texans' lowest-scoring game of the year. A type of match that I believe favors the better QB and that has to be Stroud.
Prediction: Texans 17-14
___________________________________
Week 8: vs 49ers
The 49ers will be a rebuilding team this year but has enough of a pass rush to make this game interesting. More than interesting, the 49ers will make this one a barnburner and take advantage of their dynamic offense, (assuming CMC isn't injured) to take a big upset win in Houston.
Prediction: 49ers 27-24

Week 9: vs Broncos
After a shocking loss last week, the Texans remain at home with a formidable Broncos team coming to town. I take back my sentiment in the Seattle matchup, this will be the lowest scoring game of the season but unlike in Seattle, it's because the Broncos will route the Texans here.
Prediction: Broncos 17-10
___________________________________
Week 10: vs Jaguars
After losing to the Jags earlier this year, the Texans should be able to get revenge here. Even though the Jags pass rush should do damage in this one, so should Houston's. Especially if the ball is in Stroud's hands at the end, the Texans should be able to take this one by about a field goal.
Prediction: Texans 24-21
___________________________________
Week 11: @ Titans
The Titans best chance to take one on the Texans, it should still be an easy-ish game for Houston. Cam Ward may do better against the Texans' D in this one but so will Stroud and should keep this game comfortable even on the road.
Prediction: Texans 31-24
___________________________________
Week 12: vs Bills (TNF)
The biggest game of their season to this point, the Bills will come to town for a short week matchup between two of the AFC's best. Both teams should make for one of the best TNF matchups of the season as they evenly battle on both sides of the ball. In the end, I will take Josh Allen to make some spectacular game-winner at the very end.
Prediction: Bills 24-17
___________________________________
Week 13: @ Colts
The first matchup between the Colts and Texans will be late in the season and be a tough away game for the Texans. Even though Stroud is 3-1 in his career against the Colts, Houston will have their hands full with the Colts' D and as long as they have a little bit of consistency at the QB spot, the Colts should squeak out a win here.
Prediction: Colts 24-21
___________________________________
Week 14: @ Chiefs (SNF)
After a 2-game skid, no one wants to travel to Kansas City which is exactly the hill the Texans will have to climb here. On Sunday night, the Texans will be outmatched by the Chiefs' defense and come up short in this one.
Prediction: Chiefs 23-16
___________________________________
Week 15: vs Cardinals
Back at home, the Texans are desperate for a win to continue their playoff hopes. The Cardinals are an underrated team this year and they will be a great test for the Texans but in the end won't have the secondary to hold off Stroud forever.
Prediction: Texans 28-21
___________________________________
Week 16: vs Raiders
Another home game should see an even more favorable matchup as the Raiders have maybe the worst defense the Texans have faced all year. On the other side of the ball, the Raiders should have a run game to really make this one interesting but in the end should still come up short to a noticeably better, Houston roster.
Prediction: Texans 27-20
___________________________________
Week 17: @ Chargers
At 7-8, the Texans will be against the wall in this West Coast road trip needing a win to make the playoffs. Against a Chargers' team that prioritizes the line of scrimmage and slow-tempo play, the Texans will have to overcome all of their season's weaknesses to win this one. In a battle of two Franchise QBs and good defenses, give me Jim Harbaugh's coaching to make the slight difference in this classic.
Prediction: Chargers 26-24
___________________________________
Week 18: vs Colts
After a disappointing season, the Texans end their season at home against a team that got the better of them 5 weeks earlier. With emotion showing on their arms and frustrations needing to come out, this one turns ugly quick and gives the Texans something to hold on to as they head into the off season.
Prediction: Texans 33-21
___________________________________

In this exercise the Texans go 8-9 with a 6-3 record at home and going 4-2 in the AFC South.
Expected locks to earn the AFC South title this season, the Texans will most likely miss out on the end of season tournament unless this division turns out even worse than expected and the Jaguars somehow don't win it.
The Texans' O-line costs them their season and after the 2025 "re-built" the unit, the focus on next off season will be to finish the job. C.J. Stroud did his best Superman impersonation and still gives this team hope. With his rookie contract needing extending after the 2026 season, Houston's best Super Bowl chances won't go on for too much longer especially if they don't get this man the protection he deserves.
