Red Sox Get Adley Rutschman

The Boston Red Sox have made another huge move before the Trade Deadline and acquire Baltimore Orioles star Catcher Adley Rutschman.

Anthony Eyanson, RHP

Kyson Witherspoon, RHP

Enddy Azocar, OF

Harold Rivas, OF

The 28-year old Rutschman is on a 1-year deal worth $7.2 Million but is under team-controlled arbitration through next season.

So far in 2026, Rutschman has 67 games played with a .251 average, .764 OPS, 8 home runs and 47 RBIs. His 37.2% caught-stealing rate is among the best in the league from behind the plate and is known for his defensive leadership.

The Red Sox were known to be looking around for Catchers before the deadline and got their man. Rutschman's ability defensively is much more valuable to to this team than his bat which is good in of itself.

Breslow gave up some substantial prospects and a Major League Catcher to get him, but this move along with last week's acquisition of Curtis Mead makes it clear that the Red Sox are in win-now mode and spending like it.
