Week in Summary

Another week of the rollercoaster Red Sox season is in the books and this was most certainly a down week. After starting their road trip 1-1 in Seattle, the Red Sox went 2-4 this week, ending with the 4-straight losses versus the Giants and Angles.
In their final stand in Seattle, the Red Sox were able to win the series and the game by a score of 3-1. Garrett Crochet was the player of the game here, with a dominant 10-strikeout performance in only 6 innings.
Their next outing would be showcased in Friday Night Baseball as they would visit San Francisco and face off against Rafael Devers just 4 days after trading him. Devers would go hitless in the first game to the tune of a 7-5 thriller and Red Sox win, but would have the last laugh as the Giants would take the next two while he would Homer in one game and get another run in the final of the series.
Their 3-game series in Anaheim has resulted in two-losses thus far as well brining their losing streak to 4. In Game 1, Walker Buehler would have ANOTHER terrible game and take another Loss, while the second game would see the bullpen blow the lead secured by ANOTHER dominant Crochet start to the tune of 0 runs in 7 innings.
For the week the team's stats as a whole would look like:
Pitching- 3.68 ERA/ 1.33 WHIP
53 Ks/ 27 BBs
41 Hs/ 21 ERs
Hitting- 2.29/.321/.363
55 Hs/ 21 RBIs
55Ks/ 16 BBs
3 Positives of the Week

The First Positive of the Week was more dominant outings by both Garrett Crochet and Aroldis Chapman this week. Crochet's combined stats from his 2 starts were:
13 IP, 1 ER, 9 H, 18 K, 3 BB, 0HR
Chapman's stats from his 3 outings were:
3 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 6 K, 1 BB, 0 HR
Quite possibly the best starter and closer in all of baseball, these two have been amongst if not the Top-2 players on this team and have not shown and dip in momentum even amidst the Red Sox 9-game West Coast road trip.
The Second Positive of the Week is the slight improvement in the team's batting from last week. After last week's disaster from the plate, the Sox have stopped it up a little with a 2.29/.321/.363 slashline this week compared to their .188/.258/.354 from last week. Cedanne Rafaela had the best batting of the week with a 1.000 OPS in 20 plate appearances and Roman Anthony's 8 walks in 27 plate appearances have also been good to see. Players like Duran and Toro continue to struggle a bit but have still been good enough to keep the team above average in a league-sense.
The Third Positive of the Week is that the West Coast road trip is over after tonight. After a long 9-game road trip that started immediately after a very tough Yankees series and has lasted 10 days by the time it's all done, the boys will come home around 3 am EST tomorrow morning. From winning 3 of the first 4, the Sox have fallen off with a 4-game losing streak and have once again fallen below .500 on the year. Hopefully once the boys get a day of rest and are back in Fenway, their momentum will build again.
3 Negatives of the Week
First Negative of the Week is the current 4-game losing streak. As previously explained, the long West Coast road trip is a big factor but so is the lack of momentum that seems to be in the boys right now. Besides Crochet, Chapman and at times Roman, there doesn't seem to be anyone playing with real passion as they head into their final game tonight in Anaheim.

Second Negative of the Week is ANOTHER terrible performance by Walker Buehler. Here is a chart of Buehler's previous 6 outings.
6/23 4IP 5ER
6/17 3.1IP 8ER
6/11 7IP 3ER
6/6 2IP 5ER
5/31 5.2 IP 5ER
5/25 5IP 2ER
Over his last 6, Buehler has a 9.33 ERA and 2.07 WHIP, culminated in his performance last Monday where he gave up 5 in 4 innings and walked 7 batters. Buehler was paid handsomely to join the team for a year but the time has come to cut our losses and either TRADE HIM, send him to the bullpen or to Triple-A.
Third Negative of the Week was sending down Kristian Campbell back to Triple-A. While this move is objectively warranted considering his play as of late, it's still sad to see based on the team's aura of future potential. Campbell's bat was diminishing as of late with only a .209 average since the start of June but his fielding has not been good. In his last 18 games in the Show, Campbell committed 5 errors that would aquait to 4 unearned runs and arguably cost the Red Sox 2 wins by himself. His fWAR is one of the league's worst at -1.4 and his bWAR is a -.02. Campbell started off well in the Majors but has really regressed and another stint in Triple-A... possibly for the rest of the season is needed. When looking at the depth of the Red Sox 26-man roster at this point, Campbell isn't needed either and should continue to develop.
Next Week's Predictions
Tonight the Red Sox will finish their 3-game series of the Angels and see Richard Fitts take on Yusei Kikuchi. Kikuchi's 3.01 ERA has benefited from his team's hitting as of late and his 1.43 WHIP is much closer to his form this season. Fitts is making his first start in 3 weeks after an injury rehab and will likely only go 3 innings before handing the ball over to the pen.
After the last two games, our bullpen is not at 100% and without a quality start, it's likely the Red Sox will surrender their 5th in a row unless something within the bats wake up.

Once the boys get home, they'll have a day to prepare for the AL East-rival Blue Jays come to Fenway. The Blue Jays may be 42-36 on the year but are 17-20 on the road and 4-6 in their last 10. Jose Berrios will take on Brayan Bello in Game 1 in a game where anything could happen considering the two starters' inconsistency this year. Game 2 will send Lucas Giolito and Chris Bassitt to the mound and should be the best duel of the series with both pitchers throwing well in their last outing and in Bello's case his previous 2 starts. The final game on Sunday has Walker Buehler and the Blue Jays' best-statistical pitcher Eric Lauer to the mound and if you read my earlier entry on Buehler you already know how I feel about this game.
Ending the week, the Red Sox will hot the Reds for the first two games of a 3-game series starting Monday night. Both games will feature HEAVY pitching advantages for the Red Sox as Crochet battles Chase Burns, (5.40 ERA in only 1 outing this season) and Richard Fitts battles Brady Singer, (4.13 ERA in 80.2 IP.)
The week will see very winnable matchups mostly at home and even though I can't trust Buehler at all and the game tonight doesn't have much more hope, I see the rest of the games as highly winnable. Look for the boys to get back on track this week with a 4-2 record and for the bats to wake back up in favorable matchups!
