Week In Review
In the last week the Red Sox have gone 4-2, defeated the Yankees in their first season series and debuted the #1 prospect in baseball. After a very bad end to the month of May, some would say the Sox couldn't have started June in a much better way.

Unfortunately, every good has to come with a bit of bad, with breakout star Wilyer Abreu landing on the IL being the reason Roman Anthony was called up in the first place. Lucky for Wilyer, his IL stint is only 10 days as of now with Alex Cora claiming he will be ready soon.
Over the last week the Red Sox have swung the bat really well, scoring 49 runs in their 6 games, highlighted by 11 runs in outings versus the Yankees and Angels. Again though, with every good comes bad and in the midst of their batting picking up, they've also allowed 43 runs and 7 errors in the same 6 games. The runs allowed are alarming and the fielding has been terrible. With 7 recorded errors last week, MLB ruling probably saved 2 or 3 more, calling them hits rather than errors. Even worse, those 7 errors would lead directly to 7 unearned runs.
Currently sitting at a 33-36 record, the Sox seem to be gaining back the momentum they lost when Alex Bregman fell to injury on May 24, before which the Red Sox were 27-26.
Positives
Our First Positive of the Week has to be the debut of baseball's #1 prospect Roman Anthony. While his first game was admittedly awful, his performance in Game2 which included his first MLB hit; a 2-run double and a diving catch in Right Field showcased how high his potential is.
For our Second Positive of the Week, the Red Sox's bats were on full display. I mentioned they scored 49 runs or almost 8.2 runs per game and would do so with an outstanding team-slash line or .300/.382/.446.
In the spirit of 3 stars, our first star goes to Abraham Toro, our second goes to Romy Gonzalez and our third goes to Trevor Story. Even though almost every player that came to the plate last week had at least an average to great week, these 3 were the best with OPS's above 1.000, or in Story's case, a 1.342 OPS in his last 4 games which he has been ANIHALTING the ball.

Finally, our Third Positive of the Week will go to the main relievers of the Red Sox, Aroldis Chapman, Garrett Whitlock and Greg Weissert. All 3 men had WHIPs under .7 this week while notching at least 1 K/IP and an ERA at 3 or lower, (Chapman and WHitlock had 0.00 ERAs with 2.1 and 3.1 IP respectively.
Negatives

Not surprisingly, our First Negative of the Week goes to the team's fielding. 7 errors and 7 unearned runs were both the highest marks in the league over the past 7 days and those numbers should be even higher. Jarren Duran, Marcelo Mayer and Kristian Campbell all had multiple and Roman Anthony even got involved in his debut. For the team that leads the Majors in errors over the season, the Red Sox don't seem to be doing much to improve their numbers.
In a week that saw the pitching roles reversed, the Second Negative of the Week will go to the Starting Pitching. Besides Lucas Giolito's 6 inning-gem last night, every other starter would let up 3 or more runs this week. Garrett Crochet had a very respectable game in the Bronx but would still earn 5 runs against in 6 innings, also in part to some terrible defense. Giolito would have the best and also the worst outing of the week when he surrendered 7 earned runs in 1 and two-thirds innings last Wednesday at the Angels. Walker Buehler would give him a run for his money though when he gave up 5 earned, (7 total runs THANKS DEFENSE) in 2 innings in Friday's opener in New York.
While the starting pitching has been a bright spot for the team for most of the season, this week was a REAL EYE-OPENER. Hopefully the trend won't continue and this was just a one-off the boys probably shouldn't take too much flak for.
Our Third Negative of the Week belongs to the boys' Plate Discipline. Over 6 games, the team has struck out 60 times while only walking 29 times. While the top hitters, Devers, Duran and Narvaez all walked 4+ times and also Cedanne Rafaela who completely turned heads when he walked 4 times in 3 games, almost everyone else had a ratio close to 1:4 for walks to strikeouts.
Striking out 10 times per game over the course of the week is unacceptable. Indicative of their 28th ranking amongst the league, the Red Sox struck out the most of any team this week. Discipline needs to become better and it is SHOCKING how the Sox are top-8 in the league in most hitting categories after being so lousy in this one.
Upcoming Schedule
The Red Sox will finish their series tonight against the Rays before opening up a 3-game home series against the Yankees for the first time this season. Completing a 6-game home trip, the boys will be off to Seattle for a 3-game series against the Mariners.
The Red Sox are scheduled to send Walker Buehler to the mound vs the Rays Zack Littell. With both pitchers above a 3.5 ERA on the season we can expect a high-scoring game for the series.
For the upcoming Yankees-series, the Yankees are expected to send out Ryan Yarbrough, Carlos Rodon and Max Fried. 3 very good lefty pitchers with the latter-2 in legitimate conversation for CY Young honors, especially Max Fried. The Red Sox got to both Yarbrough and Rodon last weekend and will look to do so again, but will be facing Max Fried for the first time this season. The Sox will send out Crochet, Dobbins and Bello respectively.
Crochet and the Red Sox battting should be enough to defeat the Yankees in Game 1. In Game 2, Dobbins handled the Yankees well enough aside from Aaron Judge but Carlos Rodon will look to have a better performance than last time. This game will be completely depending on Hunter Dobbins; if he keeps the Yankees to 3 runs or less in 5 or more innings pitched, the Red Sox could win this one too. As for Game 3 and Sunday Night Baseball, opposing Max Fried will be Brayan Bello who has had some up and down starts as of late. If there was any game that the Yankees would win and win so decidedly, it would be this one. Look for a scoreline around 6-1 in this game and Fried to go 7 innings with 1 or less earned run.
As for the Mariners' series, the Red Sox were 1-2 against them in their April series in Fenway. With a 33-33 record and 3-7 in their last 10, this should be an EXTREMELY even series. Julio Rodriguez is having a below-standards but still decent season from the plate and their best pitcher Bryan Woo, (who will play in this series) has just above a 3.00 ERA on the season.
The long travel makes me believe this is a series we could lose 2-1 but the even nature of the teams make me optimistic. With the pitchers expected to play in that series heavily in favor of the Red Sox, could we even see a 3-0 away sweep???
I'm guessing the next week's 6 games will see a Red Sox record of 3-3 with tonight vs Rays, Game 1 vs Yankees and Game 2 vs Seattle being Wins.
