The Milwaukee Brewers have struggled offensively this year, but on Wednesday, the Brewers exploded for nine runs in a 9-5 win over the Cleveland Guardians. This offensive explosion has to feel good for a ball club, who has averaged 1.6 runs in their previous six games. First baseman Rhys Hoskins had a season-high four hits in the victory. Hoskins has been playing the best baseball of his career to start 2025, but he went through some adversity to get here.

Hoskins signed with Milwaukee after six seasons in Philadelphia. His Philadelphia career came to an abrupt end after he tore his ACL, tracking a fly ball in a spring training game. The injury ended his 2023 season.

The hole at first base gave the Phillies an opportunity to insert superstar Bryce Harper back into the lineup. During the 2022 offseason, Harper underwent Tommy John Surgery and made his first start at first base in his career in July 2023. Harper would quickly adjust to first base, and Phillies’ management notified Hoskins that Harper would be their first baseman moving forward.

In the 2023 offseason, Hoskins was granted free agency and signed a two-year, $34 million deal with Milwaukee. In his second season as a Brewer, Hoskins is making an early bid for Comeback Player of the Year, hitting career-highs in batting average (.286) and on base percentage (.392). In the month of May, Hoskins is slashing .292/.370/.521. He has reached base in 11 of 14 May contests and had a seven-game hit streak.

Hoskins looks to continue his hot start. The Brewers lost their first of a three game series last night 3-0 to a red-hot Minnesota Twins club, winners of twelve straight. They look to bounce back tonight and win their first series since taking 2-of-3 from Houston last week.

Hoskins producing extra base hits will give the Brew Crew a constant power threat in their lineup. With Hoskins being free agent eligible after this season, this is an opportunity to show he is worth a long-term deal.
