The Boston Red Sox have been winners of eleven of the last thirteen games. Romy González has contributed to the Red Sox’s winning ways recently. While primarily a second baseman throughout his career, González has been penciled in mainly at first base this season for the Red Sox and has provided a spark in the Sox’s lineup.
González is slashing .311/.348/.554 with five homers. González came off a season where he served as bench player for the Sox, but this year it is apparent that he is trying to be a constant starter for the first time in his career. In the last ten games, Gonźalez has reached base safely eight times and has recorded multiple-hit games in four of those games. He has been an on-base machine and has been knocking the cover off the ball with a hard hit percentage of 60.4 percentage, which leads the team.
González stepped up for the Sox in a big way after the Rafael Devers trade. Since the trade, González is slashing .322/.364/.712. This has been a huge pick up for a club that shook up the league by trading an all-star slugger. The Sox were able to move past that, thanks to the contributions of González in the heart of the Sox’s order.
The Red Sox will finish their six-game road trip in Philly. They start a three-game series tonight against the reigning NL East Champs Philadelphia Phillies. The Red Sox will have a tough task on their hands, with Phillies ace Zack Wheeler on the bump tonight for the Phils. The Red Sox have fared well in interleague matchups this season, with a record of 18-12. Let’s see if Romy can get back on track after going 0-for-7 with four strikeouts against the Cubs last weekend. First pitch will be at 6:45.
