Head Coach Nick Sirianni will be pacing the Eagles’ sideline for the next few years, as the Eagles and Sirianni agree to a multi-year extension fresh off a Super Bowl victory Monday afternoon. Sirianni, who had multiple times where he was on the hot seat, has remained true himself throughout his time in Philadelphia. When your franchise player (Jalen Hurts) says you have done a great job, that keeps you around a little longer. Let’s see Sirianni’s path to his first extension as a head coach.

Sirianni came to the Eagles in 2021 after three seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts. He coached under the leadership of former Colts head coach Frank Reich, who was the offensive coordinator for the Eagles when they won their first Super Bowl in franchise history in 2017.

Sirianni did not have a good first impression with Eagles fans. In his introductory press conference in January 2021, Sirianni had some issues conveying his message on how he planned to lead a football team that just finished last in the NFC East the year prior. He seemed nervous as he stuttered and stumbled over his words when talking about his plans for getting the team back on track.

This press conference did not sit well with Eagles’ fans. Philadelphia is a city that feeds off of confidence and grit, and Sirianni’s message did not exude that at all. Disgruntled Eagles’ fans took to social media to vent their frustration with the new hiring. Questioning Sirianni’s competency and ability to coach in a city like Philadelphia.

It is safe to say that those comments lit a fire under Sirianni. He has yet to miss the playoffs in his four seasons in Philadelphia, and has led the Eagles to two Super Bowl appearances, which is the most by a head coach in franchise history.

Four years in, Sirianni is already fourth in franchise history career wins (48), and second in winning percentage (.706). This is all after his job was threatened after going 1-5 in his last six games of the 2023 season, and eventually losing in the Wild Card round to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Eagles also started 2-2 in 2024, before rattling ten straight wins en route to their second Super Bowl victory in five seasons.

On Monday, after the agreement to terms, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie released a statement expressing his confidence in Sirianni: “Nick has embodied everything we were looking for in a head coach since we hired him four years ago. His authentic style of leadership, football intelligence, passion for the game, and growth mindset have helped to bring out the best in our team.”

Sirianni will be tested immediately in 2025, as the Eagles will open the season against their divisional rival, the Dallas Cowboys. That will be the first of six prime-time games for the Birds. Eager to see how Sirianni will handle his toughest schedule of his coaching career.
