Saturday night, the Brewers finally broke through after a string of disappointing ends to their season the last few years, defeating the Chicago Cubs 3-1 in Game 5 of the NLDS. This is only the fourth time in the Brewers 55-year history that they are advancing to the NLCS, and first time since 2018.
No wonder why one of the best series of the playoffs thus far is happening between two division foes. The Brewers started the series hot, out scoring the Cubs 16-6 in the first two games. The Brewers would drop Game 3 and 4 in Wrigley, which led to a winner-take-all Game 5 back home.
The Brewers Game 5 victory was highlighted by explosiveness both on the bump and the plate. Brewers rookie phenom Jacob Misiorowski earned the win after giving his club a solid four innings in relief, only allowing one earned run.
The Brewers offense was sponsored by the long ball in Game 5. Going into the postseason, the Brewers had the least amount of team home runs, but at the biggest stage they flexed their muscle. Three runs generated by three solo home runs was all the Brewers needed to beat their division rivals, with the biggest one being Brewers first baseman Andrew Vaughn’s blast in the fourth inning to put the Brewers ahead.
Now the matchup is set. The Brewers will start the road to a pennant Monday night against the defending champion, Los Angeles Dodgers. Monday, the Brewers have a chance to clinch their first pennant victory since they were members of the American League East in 1982 (a season where they also had over 90 wins). First pitch is set for 8:08 pm EST.
