The National Women’s Soccer League announced the transfer of the Utah Royals franchise, originally founded as FC Kansas City, back to the Heart of America. The newly founded franchise will be the 2nd majority owned team in the league as it will be helmed by a consortium which includes Angie Long, Chief Investment Officer at Palmer Capital and Brittany Matthews, former Texas-Tyler soccer player and fitness guru. Matthews has a strong personal attachment to Kansas City, as her fiancé is Super Bowl Champion QB Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Kansas City franchise will begin play in the 2021 season assuming the place of the Utah Royals. All current players, loaned rights and draft pick positions will be transferred over. The team will be led on the field by Huw Williams, who served as the GM of FC Kansas City and was partially responsible for the two NWSL Championships. The head coach of the team during that time was Vlatko Andonovski, who is currently the coach of the United States Women’s National Team. Details around the team name and where they will play are expected to come in the next few days. This is a developing story…
