United States Looking Good

The United States stormed into the 2026 World Cup on Friday with a dominant 4-1 victory against Paraguay. The match took place in California in front of a raucous United States crowd and the Americans took full advantage of their home field with goal after goal including an outside foot belter from Forward Gio Reyna in 90th minute stoppage time that is likely the best goal of the very young World Cup so far.

In their 4-1 victory, a few players stood out. Folarin Balogun won man of the match with 2 goals with Gio Reyna being the only other goal scorer besides a Paraguayan own goal started the scoring.

Defenseman Chris Richards would not only bravely start the math after tearing ligaments in his ankle just weeks prior, but would have an almost perfect game by completing 83/83 passes and was 2nd on his team in interventions with 8.

Christian Pulisic may be the face of the USMNT and showed incredible work in the first half, assisting Balogun on his __ goal while being a key reason the Paraguay defense mistakenly made their key own goal in the 7th minute. Pulisic would suffer a calf injury in the half that caused him to be substituted at half time. He has since worked out by himself in preparation for their next match and seems ready to go but his injury has definitely been the top story since the win and will dominate headlines. Pulisic assisted 1 goal, assisted another that was waved due to offsides and pressured the defense into making an own goal. He is clearly at the top of his game and will be instrumental against Australia and for the rest of the tournament.

All 4 nations in World Cup Group D will have their next game on Friday, June 19th. The matches are as follows:

United States vs Australia

Injury Report:

USA-Christian Pulisic/Calf - Probable

This match will very likely be the most important single matchup of the entire Group D's group stage. With both nations taking place in this game having won their first matchup, if one of these nations were to secure a win and 3 points, they will be guaranteed to make it to the next round's Knockout Stage.

The United States are favored in this matchup after their 4-1 win last time out but Australia should get some love to, not only upsetting Turkiye in their first matchup but doing so by the tune of 2-0.

Both the United States and Australia have very in-from defenses in this one and I definitely don't expect another 4-1 game. It's more likely we see a 1-1 draw or a 2-1 victory in this case I'd predict from the United States.

Turkiye vs Paraguay

Both teams may have lost their first game of this World Cup but they are in no ways in the same boat. Turkiye's 2-0 loss to Australia was a shocking upset in which they out-possessed and outshot their opponent but failed to score. This time around, I believe Turkiye looks for revenge.

Paraguay has a decent side for this fixture but with their defense being blown up by the Americans last time around and facing against a Turkiye team that's clearly better and out for blood, this one might get ugly.

Turkiye will need to secure a win here to have a chance to make the Knockout stage where everyone predicted they'd be. I feel very confident in saying they will get that win by the tune of about 3-1 or 2-0 in this one setting up a HUGE match 3 with the United States next week.
