Playoffs?!
Yes, Jim Mora, fantasy playoffs are around the corner, and it is becoming crunch time for fantasy managers everywhere to get their rosters in line to compete for a coveted fantasy championship or to avoid a horrible punishment created by the commissioner. Here are some names to look at this coming weekend in each position that are available and on the rise.
Quarterback
Sam Darnold (Seattle Seahawks) - Darnold has looked good this season despite a rough showing against a formidable Rams defense. Do not be scared of last week’s four interceptions because Darnold has a chance to redeem himself against the Tennessee Titans. The Titans have the 25th-ranked defense in the league, a stark contrast from the No. 7-ranked Rams. Darnold should have an easier time finding his targets and racking up points this week.
Jacoby Brissett (Arizona Cardinals) - Since coming in at quarterback in Week 6, Brissett has made five consecutive starts of 19+ fantasy points, being serviceable to the Cardinals’ offense. Sunday, against the 49ers, Brissett threw for 452 yards and two touchdowns. Even with two interceptions, he still had 20+ points. This week, he plays against the Jaguars’ defense, which has the 27th-ranked secondary in the league. This is a great opportunity for Brissett to rack up some points, and he is a great option at quarterback.
Running Back
Emanuel Wilson (Green Bay Packers) - After Josh Jacobs left Sunday with an injury, Wilson stepped up and assumed the RB1 role. He did well, rushing 11 times for 40 yards and a touchdown. Jacobs is still listed as questionable going into this weekend, so if he is unable to go this weekend against Minnesota, Wilson will likely be the one taking snaps in the backfield.
Trey Benson (Arizona Cardinals) - Another solid option is Benson, who is expected to return from the injured reserve list this weekend. Benson has been out since Week 4 with a knee injury. It is still up in the air whether or not he will play with limited to no practice this week. He is a solid option moving forward in the ensuing weeks.
Wide Receiver
Christian Watson (Green Bay Packers) - Watson returned to play in Week 8 against Pittsburgh and had his best game of the season against the New York Giants, catching four passes for 46 yards and two touchdowns. With him heating up, Watson is expected to boom again against the Vikings this weekend. He is worth picking up for your receiver room.
Kayshon Boutte (New England Patriots) - If Boutte is healthy, he is a must-have in your receiver room. The Patriots have been on fire, winning eight consecutive games with Drake Maye continuing to have great games at the helm of the Pats’ offense. Boutte has been a prime target for Maye when he is healthy and has begun to practice more this week. Boutte could see a lot of targets in New England’s matchup against a struggling Cincinnati defense.
Tight End
Dalton Schultz (Houston Texans) - Schultz has been one of the best tight ends in the league, yet is only rostered on 53% of ESPN rosters. Schultz is a question mark this Thursday against the Bills since he is dealing with a shoulder injury. Schultz was listed as limited on Monday, but is still expected to play this week. If Schultz does not play, he is still a solid pickup for any manager in need of a tight end.
Juwan Johnson (New Orleans Saints) - Johnson fits the bill as well, being a solid option at only 35% rostered. Johnson has been one of the few bright spots of the Saints’ offense this season, having four consecutive games of 10+ points, with Week 10’s win over Carolina being a 19-point performance. Johnson is worth grabbing if you need a tight end moving forward
Defense/Special Teams
Jacksonville Jaguars D/ST - I know I favored Jacoby Brissett over the Jaguars’ secondary, but I expect the Jaguars’ defense to have a good day against the Cardinals’ offense. Arizona has the 24th-ranked offense overall, and even if Brissett has a good game, their running game is in question with Benson still up in the air to play this weekend.
Las Vegas Raiders D/ST - The Raiders are another good option. Even though they struggled against the Cowboys on Monday, they have a much easier matchup against the 30th-ranked Cleveland Browns offense on Sunday. The Browns have only scored 20+ points this season in two games. They have struggled to move the ball, and they have a big quarterback question.
