The World Series now shifts to Los Angeles, with the series tied at one. The first two games have provided some fireworks with the Blue Jays, exploding for eleven runs in Game 1. After a rough first inning, where he threw nearly 30 pitches, Los Angeles Dodger starting pitcher Blake Snell settled in, holding the Blue Jays dynamic offense scoreless through four innings until Blue Jays outfielder Dalton Varsho deposited a center-cut fastball over the center field wall to tie the game at two.
The game remained tied until the Blue Jays offensive explosion in their half of the sixth. The Blue Jays got the first three batters on to start the inning, forcing Dodgers manager Dave Roberts to pull Snell from the game. Once the Blue Jays got into the Dodgers bullpen, that is when the party started.
The Blue Jays would score nine runs in the inning, highlighted by Addison Barger’s pinch-hit grand slam. The knockout blow that gave the Blue Jays their first World Series win in over three decades.
Game 2 was a pitcher’s duel for most of the game. The score was tied at one until the Dodgers broke the tie in the seventh courtesy of the long ball. Catcher Will Smith and third baseman Max Muncy hit a pair of solo home runs over the left field wall to give the Dodgers a two run lead. That is all Yamamoto needed.
The Dodgers added two more runs in the eighth inning for some extra insurance, but did not seem like Yamamoto needed it. He would throw the first World Series complete game in a decade, retiring the last twenty batters he faced. An absolute dominant performance by Yamamoto, who has quickly become one of the best pitchers in the game in only his second year at the major league level.
Game 3 will be tonight in Dodgers Stadium. Scherzer versus Glasnow. Let’s see which shade of blue will have a 2-1 series lead at night’s end. First pitch is at 8 PM EST.
