Conference Championship
Predictions
SEC
Texas A&M at Alabama
** I'm basing this prediction off of the Conference Championship tiebreakers that go all the way to the 4th measure where Georgia's loss to Alabama will put them just out of contention.
** Another basis of this prediction is me making the claim that Texas A&M will lose one of their upcoming SEC-road games at Missouri or Texas.
The SEC Championship game has a long history of usually deciding one-half of the National Championship game and odds are one of these teams will be in it again. Even though likely 5 teams from the SEC will take place in the Playoffs, Texas A&M, Alabama and Georgia are clearly the cream of the crop.
Alabama's prolific pass game will match up against Texas A&M's defense in what should be a heavyweight clash. For Bama, their non-elite running game should get stopped early and could make the rest of their offensive gameplan a nightmare. For Texas A&M, they will have to play perfect defense in this game ESPECIALLY in Tuscaloosa. After (in my prediction) losing an away game earlier in the year to an SEC opponent, I believe the Aggies will have the juice to go into Alabama and take down the Tide in an instant classic.
Prediction: Texas A&M 24-20
B1G
Indiana at Ohio State
What is likely to be a clash of #1 and #2 fighting for the conference championship, the winner will take the #1 ranking into the College Football Playoffs.
When this dogfight happens between the best two teams, the biggest test will be if Indiana's offense can get enough points against the Buckeyes' defense. Indiana's Fernando Mendoza is a great Quarterback but this Buckeye's team is so good everywhere and when it comes down to it, i just don't think the Hoosiers will be able to score more than their defense lets up against the best team in the nation.
Prediction: Ohio State 28-21
ACC
Georgia Tech at Virginia
The ACC race is a tight one but one that I feel won't see any hiccups from the current frontrunners, Georgia Tech and Virginia. Louisville, Miami and Pittsburgh all have possible losses in their future anyway and with these two sitting at the top already this seems like a safe bet.
For the actual game, home field advantage will be huge for the Cavaliers and they'll need it to combat the Yellow Jackets and their offense. Even though Virginia is undefeated at home and probably will head into this game that way, GT is too skilled on offense by Haynes King. This game may turn out to be an Overtime banger, but one I'm confident Georgia Tech will win.
Prediction: Georgia Tech 41-34/OT
Big 12
BYU at Texas Tech
** This prediction is based on my guess that Texas Tech will beat BYU THIS WEEK (11/8) at home to shake up the Big 12 rankings.
**Small author's note... While I don't believe either team will lose in their final 2 games of the season, if they do watch for Utah to sneak into this game.
If this is how it goes down, it would be a rematch and one that Texas Tech already won. Home to one of the best Defensive Lines in the country, this game will be a chess match that could see neither team evens score 20 points. That being said, I trust the Red Raiders' offense to be better equipped to switch to the pass, whereas I think the Cougars will fail to run the ball against Tech's D-line and flounder.
Prediction: Texas Tech 16-10
Group of Five
USF at Memphis
There is no pre-requisite for this game as it's what I believe 95% of people believe will be the matchup for the American Conference and is another rematch from the season. By a score of 34-31, the Memphis Tigers led a ridiculous 17-point comeback against the Bulls at home to earn a win in Week 9.
The Tigers may be ranked for now and have home field for this matchup, but I truly believe the Bulls will have this. In my opinion the better team on paper along with having the better coach and going into this game knowing they should have won the first will be all they need to actually put some distance between the two.
Prediction: USF 31-17
