The Bay View Bengals continue to cement themselves as one of the top teams in Rhode Island High School Softball. After a victory over then undefeated La Salle last Monday, the Bengals went on the road to 10-0 Pilgrim and came away victorious again.
The Bengals put forward another gem in a battle against a difficult Pilgrim Patriots side led by Pitcher Alyssa Twomey, one of the top hurlers in the state and a preseason ProJo Player-to-Watch. Twomey, for her own worth, threw 1 hit, 10 strikeout performance actually surrendering zero earned runs in her 7 innings of work. It was two errors in the top of the 7th that allowed Emily Heath to reach first and then on an error to Ava Waslow allowed Heath to swing all the way around to score the lone run of the game. Heath, for her performance on the base paths, also put in a gem of a game in the circle for the Bengals. Adding to her 12 strike-out victory last week against the then undefeated La Salle Rams, Heath threw a 9 strike-out, 2 hit shutout in picking up the victory today over the Patriots. Sarah Trosin, another star pitcher for the Bengals, who was playing in Left Field today, had a hit back in the 5th along with Abbie Green Sermak's single in the 4th as the lone knocks picked up by the Bengals bats on the day. The Bengals bested the wind, the approaching rain and the setting sun all while also taking down the Pilgrim Patriots to advance to 9-1 on the season and extend their winning streak to 7 games. The Bengals will go on the road to South Kingstown on Thursday while the Patriots will look to rebound on the road against St. Ray's.
