Covid continues to roil the RIIL.
Central Falls vs. East Providence and La Salle vs. Bishop Hendricken cancelled due to positive cases within La Salle and Central Falls teams.
The 2021 Fall sports season in Rhode Island was set to begin in a normal form this weekend after being disrupted by the raging Covid-19 pandemic that saw Football season thrust into the spring.
That "normal" has now be disrupted once again as reports surfaced Tuesday afternoon that two opening week games, Central Falls vs. East Providence and La Salle vs. Bishop Hendricken have been cancelled. Numerous supporters of both East Providence and Bishop Hendricken, the two schools not posting positive cases have taken to social media lobbying for those two schools to now meet on the gridiron Friday night instead. Central Falls and La Salle have not released any public statements regarding the situation in their respective locker rooms, but the games have been removed from the RIIL schedule and has been stated that it's due to Covid-19 positive tests with those two particular schools. How this may potentially have affected other fall sports teams at these schools is also yet to be known. The RIIL and for all things being said, the state of Rhode Island, was looking to and hoping for a "normal" school and athletics year, yet here we are just two weeks in to things and already we have upset the apple cart.
