New Orleans, LA — It had been a quiet few weeks for Patriots receiver Kayshon Boutte, entering New England’s Week 6 bout with the New Orleans Saints with only seven catches and 105 yards across the Patriots’ previous four games. However, Boutte would get his chance to shine at the end of the first quarter.

With 43 seconds on the clock, the Patriots were only ahead of the Saints by one point. They did find themselves at the New Orleans 25-yard line with a fresh set of downs. Quarterback Drake Maye snapped the ball, evaded the Saints’ pressure that collapsed the pocket, and delivered a strike to Boutte in the end zone. Boutte wrestled with Saints’ rookie cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry for possession of the football and walked away with the score.

“I think he factored and certainly came up huge in the end,” said Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel postgame. “He’s just gotten better, and I like his demeanor, never too up and never too down. Sometimes the ball finds him and he makes the plays, when it doesn’t, he understands that it wasn’t his snap.”

Boutte finished the game as the Patriots’ receiving leader, catching five passes for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Other than his scoring plays, his most crucial catch came at the end of the game on a 3rd & 11 from New England’s 30-yard line. The Saints had no timeouts, so a first-down conversion would end the game. Boutte came up with a crucial catch along the far sideline to get the first down and put the game on ice.

“I think you see the confidence that Drake (Maye) has with him,” said Vrabel. “His play strength and ability to go frame the football in a big situation, I hope he can enjoy this for a few minutes with his family.”

Boutte may not be getting the ball as much as other receivers, but he has proven to step up and make timely plays for his team when he needs to. The lack of production has not bothered him; rather, he is focused on continuing to build chemistry with Drake Maye and working for his team.

“We work on it every day at practice,” said Boutte. “As long as we trust each other, anything is possible. I think you can only control what you can control. I think if you whine too much about not getting opportunities, sometimes when the ball comes your way, you’re not going to make the play. It’s just about being dialed in throughout the whole game because at any given moment, the ball is yours.”

The game was special to Boutte and his family personally as well. Boutte is originally from New Iberia, Louisiana, and went to Louisiana State University to play college football, making this game against the Saints a homecoming for the Patriots receiver.

“It was amazing coming back home,” said Boutte. “It was my first time playing in the Superdome, and it was a little emotional at first. It felt like a full-circle moment being my first time back playing here. I think everything was cool, but I got comfortable as we went on. It was a great team win, and I felt like all the guys bought in.”

Boutte would carry on this momentum into Week 7 when the Tennessee Titans would travel to New England. Coming up clutch again, Boutte would be the difference maker in the first half when Drake Maye threw a 39-yard bomb that Kayshon would make a diving catch for a Touchdown.

With the Patriots trailing 13-10 late in the 2nd Quarter, a 2-minute drive to salvage the half was in play. With only 1 catch for 16 yards so far in the game, Boutte was called on when it mattered most.

With 56 seconds left before halftime, Boutte ran a double-bluff go route in the middle of the Titans' secondary, and after a beautiful lob pass, would dive for the Touchdown catch in the middle of the end zone. Boutte would hold on as Gillette Stadium erupted before the half was over, sending the Patriots to a halftime lead of 17-134.

Thanks to Boutte's beautiful catch, the Patriots would carry their momentum through the 2nd half.

He would be limited to 0 catches in the 2nd half but would be shadowed all game by the Titans' secondary, opening coverage for other players to shine. And shine they did as the Patriots would score 14 unanswered points to secure a dominant 31-13 victory.

Whether Boutte is catching bombs, filling in a 3rd-down 10-yard slant, or pulling in the secondary's attention, he has made it clear that he is a difference maker in the Patriots' offense.

Will he continue his chemistry with Maye and help the Patriots extend their 4-game win streak this week at home vs the Browns? Tune back in this Sunday to see the young gun do his thing.
