It is finally race week for the world of Formula One, meaning the teams are set for what could be an unpredictable year, to say the least. With the pecking order still far from concrete, each team has expressed their satisfaction with their driver lineup. Yet, how good really is each driver lineup?
I ranked each driver lineup solely based on the talent I believe each of them will present this season. Car performance is not taken into account when deciding these rankings, but rather my prediction regarding the potential of the drivers and their ability to work together to achieve their team's season goals.
11. Aston Martin:
Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll

I understand this may be a hot take considering Fernando Alonso's talent, but Aston Martin's driver lineup of Alonso and Lance Stroll has the least amount of potential in my eyes. I think we have already seen the best of what we are going to get from the pair, meaning their ceiling is not far from their floor. Alonso is in his mid-40s now and in the twilight of his career, while Lance Stroll is arguably the worst driver on the grid. The car will certainly not help them this year, but regardless I just do not see this pair exceeding any sort of expectations in 2026.
Cadillac:
Sergio Perez and Valterri Bottas

Cadillac's lineup may not be the flashiest choice, but it should help in terms of team development. The signings of Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas were to help the team build a foundation through their experience. The consensus is that this team will not be competitive for at least the next couple of years, so the hope is that these two can use their experience at top-tier teams in order to push Cadillac in the right direction. As for the potential of Perez and Bottas, they don't present much in that department, which is why they come in at 10 on my list.
VCARB:
Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad

I like this lineup a lot for VCARB, but Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad need to prove a bit more this year than the driver lineups ahead of them.
For Lawson, he proved he is a very talented driver when given the opportunity to showcase it, but he needs to stay consistent over the course of a year and limit the costly mistakes he made as part of VCARB last season. With him now being the lead driver within the team, I would like to see that leadership aspect grow as 2026 rolls on.
As for Lindblad, he is the only rookie on the grid this year. He has a lot of hype but needs to prove he belongs before putting him in the conversation with the more experienced drivers.
I think this is a very solid lineup for VCARB, with the potential to turn a lot of eyes as the year goes on. With that said, both Lawson and Lindblad have track records of inconsistency, which concerns me coming into 2026.
Haas:
Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon

Though I think Oliver Bearman could be a breakout star in 2026, my concern mostly lies with Esteban Ocon. I just do not see Ocon giving more than what he has given over the past couple of seasons. He was wildly inconsistent in both qualifying and the races in 2025, with multiple instances of his rookie teammate outperforming him. With Ocon supposed to be the leader of the team, I am much more hesitant to rank him any higher.
I think as a team Haas' lineup is solid, but Ocon's low ceiling is a red flag for me. The sky is the limit for Bearman, which makes it difficult to rank Haas this low, but I just do not see Ocon improving to the extent where I can justify putting Haas any higher in my ranking. Don't get me wrong, Ocon is a very solid driver, but his ceiling is too close to his floor for me to get excited about him going into 2026.
Alpine:
Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto

Alpine's driver lineup of Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto is a great mix of experience and youth. Gasly is a proven driver who can perform at an elite level. He has yet to receive a car worthy of his talent, but do not mistake that for him having reached his ceiling. Gasly is one of the more underrated drivers in the entire sport. As for Colapinto, he will have had a full offseason to prepare for 2026, which will benefit him in terms of preventing mistakes. Colapinto is much more talented than what he showed last year, so prepare for a breakthrough for the young Argentine.
I think Gasly and Colapinto could make a huge jump as teammates this season. Gasly is a great mentor for Colapinto, who I think will be able to work with Gasly to achieve Alpine's goals. They still have to prove it, which is why they are not any higher, but are still in a great spot heading into the season.
Audi:
Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto

When it comes to mixing experience with youth, it doesn't get much better than what Audi's driver lineup is showing. Gabriel Bortoleto has immense potential while Nico Hülkenberg is still showing signs of great performance. They worked together perfectly last year, causing me to believe it will only get better in 2026.
The biggest thing for me about this driver lineup is that I can see a clear upward trajectory. The team chemistry was already solidified between Bortoleto and Hülkenberg last year; now it's time to take Audi and lead together to where they want to go. I think this driver lineup can do great things this year and surprise people once again.
Williams:
Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon

Williams are, of course, running it back with Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz, which is a borderline elite lineup of proven talent. We saw the potential of both drivers in 2025 when given the car, which should carry this team to another successful season.
It might not look great at first, but Albon and Sainz are good enough to fight through the early season issues. Sainz and Albon are both race-winning material that I don't think the teams below them have just yet. With that said, both Sainz and Albon may not have the ceiling the lineups ahead of them could have, which is why they come in at number five on my ranking.
Red Bull:
Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar

The top four are so close for me; it was extremely difficult to put one ahead of the other. However, when it comes to a driver lineup in its entirety, Red Bull hasn't proved that they can produce a balanced lineup just yet.
Let me make one thing clear: I think Max Verstappen is the best driver in the sport, with Isack Hadjar being my choice for breakout star of the season. I think these two have the potential to be a lethal lineup for as long as Max stays in F1. With that said, I simply cannot ignore the struggles the second Red Bull driver has faced alongside Verstappen. Whether it's proven talents like Sergio Perez, Alex Albon, and Pierre Gasly or young talents like Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda, nobody has been able to produce at the expected level of a Red Bull driver.
Again, I think Hadjar is an elite talent that could break this trend with the new regulations, but until I see it, I cannot justify ranking them any higher than number four in my ranking.
Ferrari:
Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton

Ferrari's driver lineup is the biggest wildcard of the bunch in my eyes, and it all depends on the version of Lewis Hamilton we get in 2026. If Lewis continues to struggle, I can see them falling to the five or six slot. Yet, this duo has the potential to be the best in the entire sport.
Charles Leclerc should be considered, alongside George Russell, as the favorite to win the Drivers' Championship this year. Of course, you have the two McLaren drivers and Max Verstappen to consider, but Leclerc should set himself apart given the right car. His talent alone justifies a top position in my ranking.
The reason I have Ferrari over Red Bull is I expect Hamilton to bounce back this year. He is more accustomed to the team now, and of course possesses all-world talent that he just needs to unlock again. However, he is aging, which brings the concern of last year being regression rather than a fluke. I am going to choose to bet on the GOAT, which is why they come in at number three in my ranking.
Mercedes:
George Russell and Kimi Antonelli

Mercedes' driver lineup is a complete one in my opinion. Both George Russell and Kimi Antonelli know and understand their roles within the team, which is crucial when working together to achieve a certain goal. The expectation is quite high this year, but I have no doubt both Russell and Antonelli know what they have to do to contribute.
Talent-wise, this duo is among the best in terms of potential. George Russell has proven he's championship ready and extremely underrated, while I see Antonelli making an Oscar Piastri-type jump in year two. They found their stride when it mattered most last season, making me believe the consistency could get even stronger as both of their talents develop. This is a scary duo for the rest of the sport not only this year but for years to come.
McLaren:
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri

As much as I want to say this was a tough decision, there was really ever only going to be one right choice here. McLaren's driver lineup of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri is just about as elite as it gets.
Both Norris and Piastri were deserving of a championship last season. Though Norris ultimately won it, it does not take away from the fact that the two are among the top in the sport. Both are young and are only going to get better from here, which is an extremely scary prospect for the rest of F1. I fully expect both Norris and Piastri to outperform the car and be in the title conversation this season; they are far too talented and fast not to be.
