10. 2015

Denver

Broncos

12-4 (#1 in AFC)

19th Offense

4th Defense

The craziest part of this list is that this team may have the best defense of the bunch. Even still, the 2015 Broncos take the wooden spoon and DEFINITELY have the worst offense.

This Broncos' team was part-Peyton Manning and part-Brock Osweiler and somehow, Osweiler was much better. Manning was 39 and in the final year of his career, while dealing with a serious foot injury. Thankfully for the Hall of Famer, his defense was taking souls on the way to the Super Bowl, holding the Steelers and Patriots to 16 and 18 points respectively.

Capped off by recovering a fumble Cam Newton couldn't bother to jump on, this Broncos team is iconic for allowing Manning to ride off into the sunset, even if he was terrible through the season. And terrible he was... in 13 games, he threw 11 TDs and 18 ints.... YIKES.

9. 2023

Kansas City

Chiefs

11-6 (#3 in AFC)

15th Offense

2nd Defense

2023 was significant in the Chiefs' dynasty for a few reasons. It marked the first time a team repeated as Super Bowl champions since the Patriots in 2004-05 but it was also a significant change in the Chiefs' game.

Some people point to the first year of Mahomes' regression, but it was also the first year we saw the Chiefs prioritize defense and tempo, the play style we see in their current team.

Mahomes had his first season under a 2:1 TD-interception ratio but the team's defense had their first season with a Top-5 defense as well.

This Chiefs team wasn't good enough to be any higher on this list. Even their performance in the Playoffs wasn't spectacular, narrowly beating Trevor Lawrence's Jaguars and Joe Burrow's Bengals on their way to beating the Eagles... in part thanks to the Refs.

8. 2019

Kansas City

Chiefs

12-4 (#2 in AFC)

5th Offense

7th Defense

Mahomes' first Super Bowl came in his 3rd season and while it wasn't as great as his initial 50-TD season, this one was special in very different ways.

Still having Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce in their primes, the Chiefs were efficient this year instead of over-powering and made all the difference. With Andy Reid starting to build their defense at this point while Eric Bieniemy still kept the offense on top, this season was very iconic for the Chiefs but looking backward, really wasn't that special.

Beating the Titans and then a Garoppolo-led 49ers in the Super Bowl is not looked back on with a lot of fondness these days. The team was good, but good isn't really good enough when looking back over the decade and certainly not as good as they would become just a few years later.

Tampa Bay

Buccaneers

11-5 (#5)

3rd Offense

8th Defense

Brady gets his 7th! Just for the record, 40% of this list includes Tom Brady who retired 3 years ago now and this was his final one. Slinging the ball for 43 TDs in the regular season and then 10 more in the playoffs, this was a pretty magical year for Tampa Bay and New England fans alike.

Not to be outdone by their defense, players like Lavonte David, Devin White and Sahq Barrett were outstanding and had the 4th passing defense all year. This playoff run was basically a joke to them and would even culminate in Brady beating Mahomes in an iconic Super Bowl of past meets future.

Not much else to say about this one, it was very cool to see even if the team wasn't all that dominant, being the only Wild Card team on this list.

Philadelphia

Eagles

13-3 (#1 in NFC)

3rd Offense

4th Defense

This team was the most difficult to place on the list. As a whole, from 13-3 to one of the best offensive-performances in Super Bowl history should make them a Top-4 I would think but ya know... Nick Foles.

Carson Wentz would have become an MVP this year and likely changed the course of history, maybe landing this team close to the top if he didn't Tear his ACL in Week 15. Foles would come in and let the team's DOMINANT roster carry him to a title however.

And dominant it was, possibly being the best all-around roster on this list. Nonetheless, this team's aura when looking back will be surmised by Nick Foles and for that I just can't bring myself to put them Top-5.

Los Angles

Rams

12-5 (#1 in NFC

T-7th Offense

15th Defense

We'll talk more about the Rams in a little bit but this team was the culmination of the team's and McVay's master plan that resulted in one of the best offenses of our time. Yes, I know they were technically only 7th in the league this year but in Matt Stafford's first year in LA, the team was so ahead of the curve of everyone this season.

Multiple sets with constant motion, intricate routes and a devastating passing pace gave defenses no hope to hold this team to under 20 points which only happened once all season.

In the end, after so many games of Matt Stafford and Cooper Kupp blowing past other teams, their Super Bowl win was capped by Aaron Donald and the defense holding Joe Burrow and the Bengals to just 20 points.

The true mark of a winner is when your "weakness" ends up being the deciding factor in the end and that's exactly what happened. In what turned out to be Donald's swan song, he completed this team and completed their season with a championship.

4. 2018

New England

Patriots

11-5 (#2 in AFC)

4th Offense

7th Defense

One of the most well-rounded teams we'll see on this list, the 2018 version of the Patriots were also one of the bigger underdogs on this list. 2 years after their 28-3 Super Bowl comeback, (More on that soon) the Patriots were thought to be old men who's dynasty was over and yet, they still won it all.

One of the team's best defenses with Stephon Gilmore, Dont'a Hightower and Trey Flowers, they would scrape and claw their way into ANOTHER Super Bowl but be face to face with the new offensive juggernaut Los Angles Rams, behind Jared Goff and Sean McVay.

Facing one of the best offenses of all time, the Pats didn't give an inch and proved superior coaching and dominant defenses win Championships. As Gronk caught the 25-yard wheel route to bring the game to 13-3, we would see the Patriots' record-6th Super Bowl win come to fruition as the greatest dynasty of all time finally came to an end.

3. 2024

Philadelphia

Eagles

14-3 (#2 in NFC)

7th Offense

2nd Defense

The reigning World Champions for 3 more days, the 2024 Eagles could've actually topped the '22 Chiefs in this list but I'm pretty comfortable with them at #3.

This team was headlined, (Or so I thought) by their run game, including Barkley in his first season here and the Tush Push. Barkley would take home OPOY and was 3rd in MVP-voting, while Jalen Hurts had one of the greatest QB-rushing seasons of all time.

However, this team's true calling card was their defense, evident by their dominant Super Bowl win where the Chiefs only got over 20 points thanks to pity-garbage time. Leading the league in yards allowed, 2nd in points allowed and 5th in takeaways, this team really could've been higher if only Mahomes and Brady didn't exist.

2. 2022

Kansas City

Chiefs

14-3 (#1 in AFC)

1st Offense 16th Defense

Just coming short of the best of the best is the 2022 Kansas City Chiefs. In the first of back-to-back Super Bowl wins, Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes and co. would continue their then-tradition of one of the best offenses in the league even in their first year without Tyreek Hill.

With hindsight being 20-20, we can say that this was Patrick Mahomes' last year of being the "Best QB in the league" with 41 TDs and 12 ints leading the Chiefs to the best passing offense in the league.

On their way through the playoffs, the Chiefs would win narrow games over the Jaguars and Bengals. Meeting the Eagles in what would be their first of two matchups between them and Philly, Mahomes and company would solidify their offensive-juggernaut season with 38 points in the final game as they would win their 17th game of the year in what could be Patrick Mahomes' greatest season of all time and definitely the Chiefs'.

1. 2016

New England

Patriots

14-2 (#1 in AFC)

3rd Offense

1st Defense

The Best of the last decade is appropriately the team with the greatest Super Bowl comeback we've ever seen and likely will ever see. This team was headlined by the Super Bowl comeback but was also part of Tom Brady's F*** You Tour after his Deflate Gate suspension and the year he had 28 TDs to only 2 interceptions.

Not to be outdone, this team's identity for the season was actually their defense who allowed the least points of any team all season. The defense had a pretty good pass rush but an excellent secondary that year behind guys Malcolm Butler, Logan Ryan, Devin McCourty and Patrick Chung.

Their run through the playoffs included beating both the Texans and Steelers by 18 and 19 points respectively as they cruised to the Super Bowl. Getting to the famous Super Bowl 51, they faced the Falcons who had one of the most dominant offenses of all time with League-MVP Matt Ryan at the helm.

From the best team in the AFC all season to casually dominating their way through the playoffs then creating perhaps the greatest moment the sport has ever seen, coming back from 28-3 in the biggest game of the season. They are easily the best team of the last decade and deserve the #1 billing on this list.
