Wings are clipped by Mercury, 91-79

Bradenton, FL- The Dallas Wings showed no effort in the second half, as they fell to the Phoenix Mercury 91-79.

In the second half, the Wings could not stop Brittney Griner, who was having her way with Dallas. Griner was scoring easy buckets in the paint, as well as getting her teammates involved in the game. The Wings attempted to double team Griner, but she made the right decision to pass the ball to wide-open teammates every time the double team was coming. Arike Ogunbowale and Satou Sabally kept their team in the game, as they combined for 37 points. However, turnovers killed any type of production on the offensive end. The Wings had 10 turnovers in the second half, which turned into points for the Mercury.

“We were not focused enough and didn’t play hard enough on defense. We need to have a greater sense of urgency on the defensive side. We need to be able to stop a player like Skylar Diggins-Smith together as a team and we were not able to do that and then they just chipped away gradually. I think we did a good job of continuing to come back but we figured out now that we can't always trail," said Sabally.

The wings are 3-6 and desperately need to fix some things within their bench productivity. They still have time to make a huge push before crunch time to get a playoff spot.
